I think the Raptors are cool, and if I lived near the desert I'd consider buying an older one to take off-road but where I live the trails are too tight for a full sized truck. So I chuckle to myself every time a waxed and polished Raptor drives by on the street. It just seems like so much wasted potential that'll never get used like it's designed to.

do it. you wont regret it. my raptor will be 7 years old in December, and its still an unbelievable driving experience every time I crawl in it. its a bone stock '13 scab, , didn't feel like I really needed any options. I bought the truck for the suspension and drive train attributes, and it really delivers in those areas. it wont last forever, but I cant imagine ever driving anything else, unless they offer a v8 in the gen 2's, and I don't see that happening. buy it and start enjoying the experience.

I don't quite get the appeal of the Raptor but must admit I haven't driven one. I think it's an impressive machine but what good is it for pounding pavement? It seems like a status symbol for 99 out of 100 drivers.

I like the looks of it, the capabilities of the suspension, and the big n/a V8. Other than the first gen Raptors, you cannot buy any other truck that has the same combination from the factory. The payload is low at only 1000 lbs, but plenty of other high end F150s aren't much higher.
If you dislike chrome, it's also a good choice from that standpoint. The only factory chrome was the lug nuts and Ford emblem on the tailgate. The only other way to get an crew cab 09-14 F150 that's not slathered in chrome is to go with a used FX4, which really aren't a whole lot cheaper than a used Raptor.
The only thing I don't like about it is that Ford didn't fit a better power steering system on it to deal with the larger tires. Raptors tend to eat steering racks every 50K miles or so. At least they are hydraulic racks though.

I've read some articles stating there's a chance that happens.. whether it does or not who knows. From an outsider (non raptor owner) it seems like a lot have been turned off with the Raptor going to a V6. Again, that may not be the true opinion out there.. it would be a good move for Ford especially if the Ram Rebel has the rumored engine choices (6.2 supercharged or 7.0 NA).
