Do F-150 Platinum owners change their own oil?
#31
You have a 40-50k investment with a warranty that you're going to throw away to save a 15 bucks per oil change at most? I don't get it.
Besides, changing the oil on an ecoboost is a bit annoying.
If you throw a rod a few thousand miles down the road, you're paying for it out of pocket if you've been changing your own oil.

I was curious to see if there were other Platinum owners that did their own oil changes. It wouldn't be worth asking the question at other trim levels since these are trucks. Probably the commercial work trucks go to the shop for an oil change. (More efficient from a business aspect.) Privately owned F-150's are probably oil changed by the owners. At the Platinum level, Ford has exceeded the concept of the "utility" pickup truck. For instance, the windshield is special sound absorbing design -- in a pickup truck! And the air conditioned front seats are awesome for this time of year in Texas.
By shrewd Ford marketing strategy, in 2010 to get Power Fold side view mirrors you had to order Platinum or KR. The two color KR didn't appeal to me. I have to have Power Fold mirrors or get a bigger garage. I really wanted a Lariat, but in 2010 they didn't offer Power Fold with Lariat, and the dealer refused to quote dealer installed Power Fold. That's probably a good thing since I've been told it's a completely different wiring harness under the dashboard.
I am pleasantly surprised to see about 50% Platinum owners responding here are doing their own oil changes.

Higher trim than a Platinum, my Harley is due for her first oil change and I have the filer and the 5-20 Royal Purple in the back seat. Now all I have to do, is quit procrastinating. I'll get to it tomorrow......no joke this time.

Had mine changed today. $98 later, fresh mobil 1 synthetic oil. Sat and watched while I sipped my Latte drizzled with caramel and read the paper..J/K Dropped it off while I hit the gym. It was 102 degrees today. Dont mind paying the few extra bucks to help out the local mechanic shop.

Normal oil change would be around $50 - $60 at the same place. I use mobil 1 synthetic. My 6.2 takes 7 quarts of it. Thats where the price takes off. But on the flip side, I have no problem with going 6-7k miles between changes. Have gone longer than that on previous vehicles.

Shortly before I bought mine, they had a black on and a white one in the showroom. The problem was, both were 4WD and I only wanted RWD. Not a single dealer had RWD so I had to drive all the way to Grand Prairie For to get mine. They were the only dealer in the state with what I wanted and they had two. Luckily I got #00007.
