I heard ford was going to be sticklers about changing your own oil with the ECOBOOST. Thoughts?

Had mine changed today. $98 later, fresh mobil 1 synthetic oil. Sat and watched while I sipped my Latte drizzled with caramel and read the paper..J/K Dropped it off while I hit the gym. It was 102 degrees today. Dont mind paying the few extra bucks to help out the local mechanic shop.

Why should it make any difference? An oil change is an oil change.

You were at the gym while they put $7 worth of value brand dino oil in it, left the old filter on it and then did burnouts in the parking lot until you returned to get it and charged you $98 to do it! lol

I never said it was different. I just heard they a little more paranoid because of FI (just like they will void your warranty if you install a catback, LOL).

Its a silly stereotype if thats the case.
Kind comparing apples to oranges here. A $50k half ton truck and a $50k one ton diesel are two totally different trucks. Not trying to start an argument, just sayin. And, I agree 100% that saying Platinum owners don't change their own oil is a sterotype. Doesn't mean its not the truth tho.....

Who cares. I don't change it in my truck. By the time you buy everything, deal with getting rid of the oil, etc, $30-some bucks is pretty cheap. Plus my truck is used for work and I don't have much time to fool around with it...I'm typically in the cab working as they are changing the oil.

I do change it in other things I own, such as my four wheeler.

I read every post in this thread, very entertaining.

I let my local Ford dealer change oil in my truck and my wife's SHO, I think it looks good on the Carfax when you go to sell. It's like $50 and they supposedly check the vehicle out pretty well.

Ditto...I do all my own maintenance on my garage items such as lawnmowers, fourwheeler etc..

My 6.2 takes 7 quarts of oil. I use mobile 1 in everything I own. With it currently going for around $9 per quart at my local auto zone, it would cost me $63 plus the filter plus tax. So in summary, it really only costs me around $25 extra to have someone do it for me and I dont have to worry about the old oil. I always check the filter and oil level at the shop before I roll out. I have heard horror stories before...

It shouldnt matter if you change your own oil. I prefer to do it myself but I do ALL my own repairs and maintenance because I trust me to take better care of my truck than some stranger who could care less about it. I understand why most people pay to have it done, its quick, easy and relatively cheap. I dont change my own oil because its cheaper, its not at all. 7 quarts of Mobil1 oil cost almost double what most oil change places charge for a complete job. I have peace of mind though once Im done that it was done right, the correct amount of oil was used, the right filter and if something is messed up I have myself to blame, not some 18 year old kid making minimum wage.
