DIY backup camera cheap !
I picked up my truck last month and love it dearly. One thing I regret is not getting a backup camera. So I decided to rig up my own
I ordered these parts off of Ebay:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2004-2011-FOR...item48468a5830
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Free-Shipping...item4ab456358c

The chrome camera handle cover was made to cover handles with a built in camera, it didn't fit exactly over the old one. I had to modify it and it does stick up a little over the old one......I made it work
The camera was smaller than the hole so I added a rubber gromet from a garden hose and glue gunned it in.
here it is installed....
I ran the wire through the frame to the drivers side rubber grommet and then ran the wires to the hole under my 4x4 switch and velcroed it in place
since the chrome piece isn't flush with the old handle I had to add another garden hose grommet for the keyhole.....I realized afterwards that my key no longer goes in deep enough to lock or unlock the tailgate. This isn't too bad since I already did the "locking key fob mod"......but I will make an extra key and grind it to make it work.
so all and all it cost a little over $70 and looks pretty good !

I already have a back-up camera, so I am considering doing this for a front camera, mostly for parking (my depth perception sucks) and off-roading.
Has anyone seen a cheap good-ish video recorder that could be used with this setup? I have seen a few on ebay, but I'm not sure how wiring it all up would go.

I also considered installing the monitor in 1 of the sunglass holders and maybe using a mercury switch to activate.....I decided against it since I would of had to remove the headliner to run the wires.....also the curtain airbags scared me a little LOL

I've worked at a body shop my whole life, that stuff doesn't scare me! Haha!!
How did you wire it in to turn on with reverse?

I spliced the reverse power from the center pin in the trailer hook up, the cable had an extra wire that I ran to the front monitor. You could as easily of spliced into the rear tailights.
