Sullyman, for weeks I keep coming back to threads about backup cameras. I like the one you posted here. My problem I cannot seem to wrap my head around is just how to power the monitor that I will have to add (I have the 2011 standard AM/FM radio with Sync. I believe I understand the camera has a power wire, a video wire and a ground. The camera is mounted then power picked up at the trailer pin or taillight. Then I run the video wire through cab (grommet under kick plate), then up under dash and into monitor! Is that correct? Then, do I then need to pick up power for the monitor at the reverse wire near the hood release latch?

I thought it worthwhile to ask before I place my order in case I do not understand and screw it all up. I am such a visual guy. If I seen it on a drawing I would get it quick. Words always really seem to mess me up.

Anyway, if you can help I would appreciate it......or anyone else that understands my 2 questions.... Thanks for reading and posting your link.

I also would like to see the wiring instructions. Which reverse wire do you tap into? I went out and got wire connectors but want to make sure I splice the right wire. Also how do you go about powering the monitor to come on in reverse.

Try doing a search for "backup camera wiring question". There are several ways to wire them. If you get stuck post again for help.

Default Installed My Camera

You guys and all your camera talk got me wondering what I was missing I have the rear signal alarm that lets me know if there is anything behind and how far behind so i figured I go all the way and see what it as well . Well after a little shopping on the web I picked up a Peak system has a 2 1/2 camera and a wireless circuit. A real easy to do setup and installed it about 4 hours. The longest part was to wrap the wire with wire wrap in the rear area. Used some two way tape to mount the camera on the dash since it has no weight. Like all jobs if I had to do another it could probably be done in half the time a real sweet setup .Oh" yeah it cost me $ 50.00. plus the wire wrap but I had that already.

Plugs into the cigarette lighter: you could cut the plug off and tie it into any hot wire it just approx a 18 or less ga. wire. Very simple setup. as the monitor has an on/off sw.
