Default Dip Stick 5.0L

If one thing needs to be redesigned is the location of the dipstick on the 5.0L. Seems it is a perfect spot when the engine is in the Mustang but in the truck, I need a step ladder to get it and I am 6'2".

rant over..

I hate checking it, especially when it is wet and everything is slippery. I am 5 '10 so you can imagine its not easy for me. I go up on the tires and do a little balancing act, there is nothing on the front of the truck I trust to stand on.

Of course the 5.0L's burn oil and you have to check it all of the time..

I know a couple of mechanics at the dealership that let the air out of the front tires when they work on the trucks.

I'm old and half blind. It took me 30 min. to find the dipstick, then another 30 min. to find the hole to stick the dipstick back into.

I've got a little over 14k on my 5.0 and it doesn't burn oil. I do agree something should be done about the dipstick.

Be glad is has one. All the new European cars and SUV have eliminated the stick entirely and are using level sensors to read the level so you only have to look at what the instrument cluster says. PIA to do an oil change, especially since they are so picky about the correct level.

I wouldn't use that dealer any more, when I worked at the dealer I had the proper tools to do any job up to and including being able to reach into the engine compartment.

Every DIY'er needs one of these when working on a truck.

Hang it over the tire and step up. Folds flat for easy storage or hang it on a wall in your garage.

its not a matter of of having or not having the correct tools. sometimes its just more convenient.

some of the techs I work with will let the air out, some take the tires off completely and let the lift down. its not like either scenario hurts anything so why should he find another dealer?
