Did a Tune Up WOW!

So I read a few things on doing fluid changes or not especially at the mileage on my truck. One thing that I read most was the "under normal driving conditions" basically that means on driving on the freeway at 60mph with no load/trailer when its 70 degrees out at all times. Yeah um in Minnesota -20 degree is common. So this is what I did and much to my surprise I am now glad I did.

Front and Rear Differentials
Transfer Case
Spark Plugs
Air Filter
Full synthetic oil now.

My rear diff had almost a 1/4" worth on metal shaving on it and was VERY dirty. The front diff fluid wasn't as bad but still dirty.

My TC was dark pink to almost black

Spark plugs gap ranged from .037 to .046

The truck just turned 41k miles and was surprised to see how dirty the fluids were and how huge of a difference the gap was on the spark plugs.

My truck has a level and 3.73 gears with AT Tires and I have never seen 19mpg on the highway. Today with 50 miles of hwy driving I averaged 20.4 and was absolutely blown away with that. I know I know its only 50 miles but have NEVER seen above 19 with any type of short or long freeway driving.

My Trans fluid looked good still and will change that next spring at 50-60k miles

here is a pic of my rear diff fluid

No oil catch? Lol

Now you have me worried... 53k miles on my 2012 EB and only changed the motor oil and plugs... lots of heavy driving and boat pulling

When does Ford recommend TC oil chang? Along with the normal 50/60k w/tranny?

I thought it said 60k for TC and Diffs and 150k for Tranny... "Under normal driving conditions" I didn't buy my truck to use it as a car and I live in MN so winters it gets damn cold

Just looked it up:
Not limited to only the below, just related to the post. Very surprised its 150k miles before they recommend tranny flush!

https://owner.ford.com/tools/account....html#/details

60k
T-Case fluid change

100k
Plugs changed (i personally recommend @ 30-40k for EB)

120k
T-case fluid change

150k
front diff fluid
tranny flush

All this really made a difference you could tell from driving it afterwards?

MikeyZ 09-03-2015 03:08 PM

Placebo Effect- sorry man.

TNathe 09-03-2015 03:15 PM

well dang! now I need to go get gear oil! that is naRsty...

RLXXI 09-03-2015 03:19 PM

The air filter probably made the most difference, the rest not so much. As for tranny fluid it does state in the owners manual 150k miles but in the Ford shop manual it states sealed for life NEVER change unless it's been in severe duty then change it @ 150k.
