Default Did my first oil change today.

Nothing too crazy but its definitely tougher than my last truck. The truck sits a whole lot lower than my old one. I can barely fit underneath, my old truck I could lay on a creeper and cruise around no problem. Guess ill have to use ramps next time.

I did install a Fumoto valve. That Will help keep the mess down while draining the oil. Only other issue is getting to the oil filter. It came off easy enough, it was just hard to get the new one threaded on. Anyone have any tips?

My oil was about a 1/4" high on the dip stick. Did not smell like fuel. I had approx 3k miles on it in about 7 months time. I do monitor it closely due to the possibility of fuel in oil.

This truck is very hard to get an accurate reading on the dip stick. The stick seems to get oil smeared up the stick even after removing and wiping the stick clean.

Only time I've been able to get an absolute reading is when removing the stick after the engine hasn't been run in several hours.

Access to the oil filter is difficult. I get to it by removing the course flexible black material to the rear of the air dam. It has several hand release plastic butterfly securing screws. Release these and access over the top of the skid plate from the front of the truck. Still not easy, but doable.

The oil filter is just something you will get better at. You just have to get a feel for it. I've done enough changes in my last two trucks that it takes almost no time to get it done now. But the first couple times it did take a couple tries to get the filter on there. No biggie.

Smart idea on the fumoto. I've got them on all 3 of my vehicles and love that I'll never have to replace a drain plug again. Oh and the ramps will ensure that you only get oil out the back funnel when you take off the filter. You'll get it figured out and have no issues soon enough

When I did my oil back in April I took the skid plates off. Both the metal one and the plastic one. It added a few minutes to the change but made looking at things 100x better.

For the oil filter, I also took the fuzzy plastic off at the clips. Put a light in the top to help see things. It was a tough fit as I was mostly blind to it. But I got it in there.

The only other suggestion would be to use some Simple Green on the "funnel" by the axle. Mine drove me nuts with dripping here and there for a week or so. Thought I was chasing a leak at the filter!

I used to do crazy things like like when I wore a younger mans cloths. But now, I stop by the dealer, give them the keys, have a cup of joe, and look at the new trucks while I wait.

I use "The Works" coupon on the Ford owner's site, and my guy never charges me for the extra oil. For $39.95 I can't see any reason for me to even consider doing it myself anymore. And with the "Owners Advantage" rewards when you get four, the fifth is free.

Mmmmmm, a free fifth..........

I do my own oil changes! No issues, installed a Fumoto valve and love it! I trust none of the Idiots at the dealerships!

In the time it takes to drive back in forth to the dealer (half a hour) I'm done changing my oil!
