Remember 99 when the 5.3 came out, it decimated other trucks engines. It wasn't until 2011 that Ford surpassed GM in truck engines.

The new 6.2 will probably be rated at 425/455 minimum, but to be honest the current one outperforms the Ford 6.2. Power under the curve has always been GM's thing with their v8's and the new ones blow away their old LS v8's. EcoBoost is Fords saving grace and looks like an awesome option. I doubt GM will get Ecoboost EPA numbers out of their 6.2 until they use an 8 speed auto, but if they can come in 1mpg combined under it that will be a landmark.

Current Silverado's are not that attractive, Sierras are significantly better. The new Silverado's are nice, but the new Sierra really steps it up.

GM (Obama motors) garbage. Nothing but troubles and unreliability. Engine slap and poor quality are all they know. The Government should had let them go out of business. They are a poor excuse for a company, let alone an American company.

I don't believe the Torque curve pic that you posted at all.

The GM 6.2L already is inferior to the Ford 6.2L so I have no idea why you think different. Ford used the same flywheel dyno to test it against their 6.2L and here's the comparison right out of Ford's hard cover dealer stand book.

GM chose to be a follower and not a leader, by stepping up to the plate and offering everything Ford did 3 years prior.

They should had gone under but Obama wanted a motor company, so he bought them with OUR money.

One thing is for sure, even if the torque curve is as good as they claim, it won't matter with GM's typical crappy axle ratios of 3.08 and 3.42. The 3.08 gear has a 21% loss of torque multiplication compared to the Ford 3.73 axle gear. The 3.42 axle gear has a loss of 9% torque multiplication compared to Ford's 3.73 axle gearing. Chevy will need a lot more torque than their claim, to equal wheel torque with such lousy axle gear ratios.

At 350 lbs, a 21% loss would be 73 lbs and a 9% loss would be 31 lbs. GMs 6 speed transmission gears are pretty close to Fords, even though Ford still has better gearing ratios.

Actually you can get the 6.2 in the LT models, I've had 2 of them 2010 and 11, both were extended cabs 4x4's with just the max trailering package on them. As far fuel mileage the 6.2 isn't that far off compared to my ecoboost. Same drive around the same time of year my 6.2 got 18.1 mpg at 70 mph with 91 octane and my ecoboost gets 18.9 mpg at 70 mph with 93 octane. 6.2 with bolt ons and tuner and ecoboost with the same, both leveled and 305/60/18's, silverado weighed 5940 and ecoboost weighs 6080. The big difference I noticed in them and the reason I switched to the ecoboost is the towing, I tow a boat 3-4 times a week. The 6.2 would pull great but constantly down shift to 5th and even 4th at 70 mph, the same trip to the lake the ecoboost never down shifts at all with the cruise set at 70. I've had 02,05, and 07 5.3 motors and the 07 new body style had the deactivated cylinders and it burnt 2 1/2 quarts of oil between changes. I really didn't like the 5.3 so that's why I went with the 6.2. Great motor IMO. Ecoboost is better for what I do though.

It flat out dominates the 5.0 in low end torque. The 5.0 doesn't wake up until around 3500. It does this while getting better gas mileage. The Ecoboost makes more power, but this is the mid line engine. The new 6.2 will make more power and torque then the Ecoboost while probably not getting as good of gas mileage.

You can be a die hard Ford fan, but you have to admit this is looking to be a sweet motor all around. Tons of low end torque and good gas mileage in a simple v8 platform.
Thanks for the chart, matching up fords official numbers your right, the 5.3l DOMINATES the 5.0l by 10-15ft-lbs...... Till 3000rpm when they trade blows till 4500rpm when the 5.0l takes over and out torques the 5.3L till redline. Not really "domination" but Yay beats it for awhile. Actually kinda dissapointing considering the 8% displacement advantage over the 5.0l. Due to the way cylinder deactivation helping a lot more in EPA testing then it actually does in the real world I'd say mileage is a wash. The 5.0L, 3.5eb, and 5.3L will all be within 1mpg out in he real world.

For the last 5+ years, everything that GM has released has been SAE certified, therefore rated actual output verified by third party. Chassis dyno comparisons reveal these numbers to be spot on based on generally accepted powertrain losses. Ford on the other hand does not certify most of their engines, And chassis dyno comparisons suggest that their engines are actually underrated.
