Detailing black truck

Mattm400 ... just wash with a good soft sponge & water only. Don't know if that's good or bad, but that's what I've always done.
It's always better to use a quality car wash soap/concentrate. The suds lift small/micro' particles from the surface which minimizes possible scratching.
Also ... Don't use a sponge (traps and holds dirt). Use a microfiber wash mitt | pad.
And ... Consider getting one of these (or something like it) ...
*Has a grille that sits a couple of inches off the bottom so that any sediment is not redeposited on your wash mitt / brush.

I made something like that, probably saved like $50 right? Took an old plastic grill from a fluorescent light fixture and cut it to fit the bottom of my 5 gal bucket
That would be BAD.

If you want a really, really nice finish:
Wash with Dawn ( to strip it)
Zaino clay bar
Zaino ZFX
Zaino 2 or 5 if you already have swirls
First time is a pain. Time consuming.
From then on, a breeze.
Next step down from that would be Zaino AIO Wash and apply.
I use a 2 bucket method to keep the grit off the cloth.

I just run it through the automatic wash and drive it. It will probably be dirty again 10 minutes later anyway

black trucks if you want them always looking nice, are a part time job. You will get swirls if you don't refine your washing and drying process. I would never wipe down or "quick detail spray a truck" it will fine mar the truck.
How much do you want to keep this truck in tip top shape? How much time do you have each week? How dedicated are you to changing behaviors and techniques? Will swirls and fine scratches drive you nuts?
Cheers,

I found maguiers yellow wax works the best for me but when I went to buy more today, I couldn't believe all the black specific waxes out there. Used to be one or two brands, but now it seems the good brands have black specific waxes.

On a black automobile or any color for that matter I have had great results using wash and detail products from Adams. They sell everything from soap and wash mitts to polishes, waxes, sealers and detail products. Every order comes with a CD that demonstrates how to best use their products. To top it off, all of their products are made in the USA. Adamspolishes.com. I hope this helps.

porter cable or a flex polisher will be your friend. Learn to use them and a light swirl remover and keep a good coat of sealant on it. NO DRIVE THROUGH CAR WASHES.
USE SOAP, better yet use a foam gun- it will suspend dirt particles and not micro-mar your paint resulting in swirls.
