Dee Zee tailgate assist

My dad and I installed them in both our F150s. It took far more than 9 turns to get the nutsert tight. Mine wouldn't install with the included pieces. I had to double up the thrust bearings for it to set the insert and not just spin it.
Both our nutserts have come loose and will require snugging up and my dad's shaft broke off at the threads. They could have designed a nutsert to fit the elongated hole better. But for $40, big deal.

I just installed mine today Keith and it worked like a charm. I also put a stainless steel washer on the inside and outside like you recommended.
You will need a box wrench and tape the nut and washer to your wrench. Masking tape worked fine for me. You will also need to tape an extention to your wrench so you can reach inside hole.
Keith460;4071438]Mine comes loose every week. You can't expect a nutsert that is designed for a round hole to stay tight in the Ford tailgate elongated hole.
I have a new 10mm ball stud made of stainless that will go in as soon as the weather here gets warm enough. The threads are larger diameter than the one that is supplied by Dee Zee and will fit the elongated hole much better. The other end will have an Serrated Stainless Flange nut that will hold it in place and never come loose.

I've had mine on a couple weeks - the nutsert tool was a pain to install. The threaded insert kept spinning in place. I threadlocked the capscrew to the nutsert and it worked fine after that. Time will tell if it was a good investment but so far it's a great accessory for under 30 bucks.

Glad that worked for you. I was hoping to do mine this weekend but snowing again as you know. I first need to get the POS Nutsert out first though.

I just screwed the Nutsert install bolt back in an used a hammer to straighten it back out. This gave me enough room to manipulate it back out.

Put mine in today. First time the nursert didn't want to work so I took it out and re adjusted it back to the 3/4" and it worked the second time. time will tell how it holds up, I don't use my tailgate everyday so that should help.

misses 3 on the tree
did this on Sunday morning.
Everything I could find on installing it said 9 to 11 turns. I could not get nine turns before the nutsert bolt starting bending. I got maybe 8 turns of the nut, but it is in there tight.
I really was afraid that the bolt was going to break if I tried to torque it down any more.
It seems very snug, Opened and closed the gate maybe 30 times and it is holding tight.
I guess time will tell. I hope it keeps working, it is a great upgrade.
What held Ford back from making this a standard factory item on my 40K truck?
