My cable was binding between the strut and tailgate, so I added an extra washer under the post that attaches to the tailgate. Worked great. I did the tap method from the start, I am not a fan of that style nutsert.

What I meant was, I don't care that you like the Nut Serts! I think they're Junk, no matter how they're installed or by who installs them! They're Destined to Fail or Loosen over time with Use....

Well of course, everything man made wears out with time, I work with those things on a daily basis and it's not unusual to have to drill them out and replace every couple of years, for the application and cost of the overall product they are well suited.

I installed mine today...no problem, and a nice improvement.

I wish it was a litlle better designed, as I don't like the nutsert either, but, for a $30 mod....I can live with it for now....

and FORD....are you listening....??? Make the damn thing standard....cheap basta#ds...

I replaced mine once already and I noticed it's loose again. I'm going to put a nut behind it when I get a minute.

I just installed mine yesterday. I used the alternative method without the nutsert. It was very easy and required no additional parts. I would highly recommend this method as it's easy and definitely a more secure installation.

That nutsert is crap to say the least. I just installed mine last summer and could count on my two hands the amount of times the tailgate has been opened since, and still every time I open it now it's loose/wobbly. Got sick of tightening it and did the mod last weekend and only took 15 min. Much better. Tightened the crap out of it, and it ain't going nowhere now.
