No this isn't Injector tick. Injector tick would be 8 times per two revolutions. This is one time per two revolutions.

I'm leaning towards lifter tick. Or something in the valvetrain

Have you guys ever owned a modular motor before this truck? Just curious. They do make some different noises and they are normal.

Mine also makes that sound, but it is more of a knock sound in the lower part of the engine. It does not do it when cold and it does not always make that noise. It is not using any oil and I'm planing on switching to full synthetic on my next change. Now I don't even thing about it and just chalk it up as a normal sound.

The only thing I recall in the manual about e85 and oil is it does tell you to run a full tank on non-e85 before you have the oil change done so there is something there about the two.

E85 isn't crazy cheap where I am (only 20 cents lower) so isn't worth the loss of mpg.

I personally don't recall hearing this knocking on my engine but then again I haven't been trying to hear it either. I have used oil though but has seemed to stop somewhat (keep two quarts on hand). Have 26k miles on it so far.

A mechanic friend of mine once said "if it is something to worry about, it will get worse. In the mean time just drive it and don't worry." I have heeded that advice for the last 25 years and it has proved true. When I didn't heed his advice, I always had anxiety and made multiple trips to the dealer, usually for nothing.

Vehicles make noises, sometimes we don't notice until one day we do for some reason or a friend notices and points it out. Then our OCD kicks in and we fret. Tune them out and enjoy the truck. It's just a truck and can be fixed or replaced and if it is under warranty, then it is at no cost.

Good luck,

Losing oil at the rate the OP indicates does not sound right. Gotta be something going on here.

Could be wrong though.

No. The e-85 rating denotes the rubber in you fuel line won't dissolve due to ethanol, and that the computer will adjust the fuel mixture properly and automatically.

Also, doesn't it say in the owners manual to change the oil more often if running e-85?

Mine started ticking as well, when it was at the dealer we tested it as its louder next to a wall....

Manger said you have 2 ticks, and both normal....one is fuel rail other is lifters .....

first oil change I used oil this time around no oil added...

Mine has the slightest tick. Has since new. I, myself, am not worrying about it. I have had several mod motors and they all have had some tick at idle. With the 5.0, there's a lot of stuff moving around when compared to a pushrod motor. I also have had no abnormal oil loss since day 1. Most it has been down has been 1/2 quart over 6,000 miles. I have ran Mobil 1 since the first oil change. Again, yours may be worse. It's amazing that an engine is so quiet that we can hear fuel injector tick. In my case, I dismissed it entirely when I heard a buddies 2013 HEMI at idle. His ticked worse than mine. BTW, I have 21k on mine now. Love this motor.
