Default Dead battery......at 4400 miles

2011 F150 XLT SCrew bought in Dec 2011.......voltmeter has been reading 14.2

~ 3 hours after running an errand.........dead battery, key fob unable to unlock door, keypad dead, no interior lights, no click when tried to start.......jumped off, ran fine.

2 days later, first thing in the morning, key fob unable to unlock door, no interior lights, voltmeter read 7.0, single click when tried to start.......jumped off, ran fine.

Battery's light is orange.......personal mechanic says bad battery.......Ford dealer says battery was good and would need to keep the truck for the day to run down possible wiring problem........took back to my mechanic who changed out the battery.......now voltmeter reading 13.8.......

Anyone having same issues????? Any ideas of what's going on????

Sounds like your personal mechanic wants to throw a part at it and the Ford dealer wants to fix the problem... Standard operating procedure.

If you have anything aftermarket remove it first and see if you still have a problem. If you do take it to the dealer so they can fix it.

The stock batteries suck. I m on my third. A radar detector left plugged in will drain in one day.

I have the same truck and also a 2005..with GPS, radar, phone chargers.. The 05 had two amps.. Never had an issue. Something else is draining your battery.

I had a similar experience with my 09 about a year ago. I had the battery tested and it showed to be fine, but the battery eye would show red in a few days. I swapped in an Optima and haven't had a problem since.

You can't go by the voltage reading of the battery alone. I've told this story before: My wife had a 98 Grand Prix which would not start. Got it jumped and home. I checked the voltage and it showed 12.5 volts or so- I'm like - what the ****! I put my battery load tester on and the voltage dropped to around 3 or 4 volts-must have been a bad cell. Use a load tester.

I usually get one year out of the stock battery in my trucks. My wife's 2008 Escape putters around town starting and stopping and still has the original battery. I haven't figured out why it is still kicking.

Had this happen to me a few months back on my 2010.
Had to have it towed to the dealership.

Interestingly enough, could not shift out of park without battery power. Guess the brake safety switch must have some sort of powered interlock with the shifter. The tow truck driver had one of those jumper packs (wouldn't kick the truck over) which allowed me to shift to neutral to get it on the tow truck.

The dealer insisted on running some sort of automated battery/charging system check and that showed the battery as the cause. Nice to know it wasn't something else, but a lot of work just for a battery, in my book anyway.

Good luck,
-Matt

It's a 2 month old truck... let the dealer have it for the day.

^That

And I've had nothing but great luck with Motorcraft batteries.. that's all I'll use. I've used two that were in trucks when I bought them that were over 7 years old and still going strong when I got rid of them, and in my buddies 99 F-150 he just replaced the battery last year. Got 11 years out of it.
