Default Day time running lights

Hello there
Is there any way to turn off the daytime running lights or disable them? I read a few threads about a relay and one about cutting a wire. Well I found no relay and did not find the wire. So I am assuming the only way is to take it to the dealer and pay $60.

Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

The DRLs are controlled by the BCM, no relay or extra wire.
Depending on what Country or State you are in, your dealer should be able to turn them off for you. Or find someone with a Ford IDS to do it for you.

You could try the software FORSCAN and an ELM327. I activated mine using them, I'm quite sure you could disable yours. Search over on the serious explorations forum.

I tried to build a circuit using a 10V Zener diode- the idea was, with DRL mode (output voltage is about 10V RMS), activate an alternate relay to run a Putco LED strip as my DRLs. When the lights do come one, auto or manual, at the full voltage, the normal headlights would then come on. bench tested perfectly. Not so much in the truck. Gave up, build a relay cct to turn off the DRLs and headlights until the fogs were activated. this way I can run with the LED strip as DRLs, once the autos come on, as long as the fog switch is pulled, I get normal head lights.

Works okay- not perfect.

Could this swap them from the headlamps to the parking lamps

Only option in IDS on my 2012 is headlamps on or off for DRL options. Possibly an option on the later years but not on my truck

13 and newer can use the front turn lamps as dtrl with IDS. They added that to accommodate the new HID's some 13^ trucks have, you don't really want the HID's burning all the time.

I knew I had seen it active on newer models. I wonder if it is a change with the programming in the BCM as built or if it is a different BCM?

It's done by selecting the option change in the bcm thru IDS. With that said I found out about a program that does things IDS can't.

I made my fog lamps DTRL. When ever I shift to drive they come on instead of the other lights.

I set the parking brake and put her in drive so I could snap the pic and as you can see the fogs are lit up, no other lights.
