Dash Removal Instructions

Hello F150 world! So happy to be here!

I am going to have 14 days off work and I am preparing to change both blend door motors on my truck. I am doing this because it clicks for about 4-10 seconds after start up. I also only get air blowing out of the vents (no floor etc). Since I have the time I would like to do the job the “right way.” I honestly don’t mind doing a few more steps to make the job easier.

So, can you guys please give me some detailed instructions on how to remove the dash AND which tools I should buy/have ready to remove it?

Then of course, any and all advice on the job. Which part brands to buy, other maintenance I need to do. Feel free to make fun of me :)

I’m a mechanic on corporate jets but I know nothing about cars/trucks

You don’t need to remove the dash. I replaced my lower temperature actuator in an hour by going through the passenger side footwell. You’ll need to cut some plastic which does not harm your truck whatsoever. Much better than pulling your dash apart.

A few points:
  1. You have 3 or 4 blend doors, not 2.
  2. You do not have to remove the dash except possibly for the recirc door.
  3. Only use Motorcraft actuators.
  4. The Mode door is on the driver side underneath. This sounds like the only one currently in need of repair.
  5. Have some nylon trim removal tools.

Ok bud. I didn’t intend to offend. I thought I had done it properly but I’ll do more research and figure this out. Thank you for your patients

Heck yeah, I did the access shown and looks easy. But, this guy says to just “break it off at the other bolt” 😂

if I pull the center console can I get to this second bolt so I don’t have to break this thing off?

big thank you for the video

Cool, thank you for the information on the motorcraft actuator.

Does the blend or fan need to be in a specific setting when the door motor is changed?

One bolt holds it in perfectly fine. No need to take the dash apart for this repair. When I did mine, I had to take note where the old actuators teeth were and line up the new one otherwise it wouldn’t go in. To line it up, plug in the new actuator, and move your temperature settings around. When the teeth line up with the old actuator, quickly shut the key off.
