D vs 3
OK, so this is the newest truck I have ever owned. Prior to this, a "new" truck to me was my '91 Silverado. With those trucks and that pitiful 305, the rule of thumb was never drive in "D" (OD) unless you were on the highway in these hills.
So, with the new F-150, I followed- rather tried to follow that same rule burned into my brain with some really weird results.
When I start out in "3" it feels exactly like an old 4 speed starting in second riding the clutch. The engine will rev to 2-2200 then the truck slowly starts to crawl forward then things catch up and it's fine. I watch the tach and there really doesn't seem to be any shifting at all. No 1,2,3- just 3rd. Wouldn't this be murder on the clutch plates? Is this normal?
I don't like the 6 speed around town- way too much shifting, but is 3 like a gear lock? No other gears except three?
Two outcomes from this post:
A) I'm too outdated in my trucks and need to get with the times.
B) There is something that needs to be looked at.
Any knowledge anyone can lend?

I think the main knowledge to share would be RTFM.

awesome suggestion if I had an F'n manual- but "A+" for effort. Still hasn't shown up. Wasn't one with the truck- they ordered one for me, but hasn't arrived. One would have thought based on the weight of this truck, 1st and 2nd are implied. Apparently not. D it is.
