Custom camera installation on mirrors on 2014 Lariat w/ Lockpick
#11
Sounds like a good idea. Be careful with the LockPick though. We have a LockPick for my wife's Charger because we did not want to pull over and put the car in park just to type in an address in the factory Nav. If you do get the LockPick, make sure you uninstall it everytime you take to the stealership...if they reprogram the ECM/BCM, it will wipe out the LockPick. Dodge did this to ours, so the LockPick does not work, except for the Nav safety override...that is why we have not replaced it yet.

I gotcha, I'm understanding more now about your ultimate goal. For that, I think these would do great. I haven't had visual problems with them, physical problems, and they don't self adjust due to speed bumps etc - you really have to use the provided "Key" to move the lens around.
Tell me about this Lockpick - you need it to view the cameras? In your stereo?

That makes sense. I have mine wired to the LCD mirror and then power them on their own and use a switch. I can't have both on at the same time and if I did the rear has priority, but just use them to park.
My only thought is...does it make it so video is priority? Say you're...listening to music or using navigation and wire in the cameras, when they switch on through the blinker it shuts everything else off and takes over?
Edit: I remember looking at something similar to the Lockpick for my Prius, damn navigation wouldn't let you input while on the go. Then I found out that some aftermarket stereos can be fixed to run while in motion; cutting a wire and grounding it or some such. I never did end up doing it though. Thinking about for the Ford though.

Did you make a decision here? I totally forgot to take some night pics of the camera in action.

I did have a chance to somewhat scope out the mirror today, I had the puddle lights out to replace them with LED's so was able to look inside them a little bit. There is a hollow space between the puddle lights and the end of the light and I do believe the motor is where I originally planned on putting the cameras, so I will probably put them between the end of the mirror and the puddle light. I won't be able to tell for sure until I take apart a mirror, but if I have to relocate the cameras a bit it's not a big deal.
I will definitely do a write up on this to share with the community when I undertake this
Would still like to see some night shots if you don't mind! These are the cameras I plan on using.

Yes, I am definitely going to do this but it might not be for a few weeks or so.

I took some night photos, but I was in the driveway so...it was just bright as white because of the garage door. Next time I go somewhere after dusk I'll try to get some better ones.
