Crappy mpg towing rv with ecoboost
#31
incredible power no doubt. very smooth! Ill try better fuel and see how it does on the return trip on Sunday. Could also be this crappy ethanol they make us run here in the Dallas area. The reason i kept in 5th is it wouldnt stay in 6th. It kept dropping to 5th. wind wasnt too bad there are some mild hills out west of Ft Worth though.
I definitely need tow mirrors and some LT tires though!

I live in the Chicago area with Ethanol so that's not the problem. Just do the checks I brought up in the previous post and hopefully you'll find the problem.

I tow a 6000lb trailer. I make sure tire are inflated properly (highway tires) and also use it in tow/haul mode. I could get up to 12mpg going no more than 60mph. Any faster and mph starts decreasing drastically.

With the stock tires my 2009 with 5.4 3:55 would get 18 mpg at 2000 rpm(72 mpg.) running max inflation 32psi. I replaced them with hankook Lts and on my recent trip back to Kansas from New Mexico I averaged 20.6. Maximum inflation 80psi. I am running at 60psi.

I pull 8k+ with my Boost and I got 12.2 round trip from AZ to San Diego. I was thrilled....compared to my old Titan. One thing is..turn off sway control, I found that it hampered my mileage pulling up a 6% grade and double check your gain on the brake confroller...I set mine at 5-5.5.
When I get to where I'm going , I obviously unhook and enjoy the mpg's!!

Turbos cram in more air, more air requiers more fuel. Both together prodcues power. Get a boost guage and stay in vacuum as much as possible. Your MPG will will improve. Yes, I have the V8, but I've owned a few turbocharged vehicles.
