Cooper Tires???
#1
I'm looking to get a new set of shoes for my truck. I've run my factory Pirelli Scorpions tires to 55k and still have good life left in them if I were to stay in Florida. We're heading to Colorado in February for our annual winter vacation but I don't trust my current tires to keep us safe in winter conditions. I'm Looking to get a set of Cooper Discovery ATP's or the AT/3 's, are they a decent tire?? Sorry for the double pic of the same tire....

They are ok tires. A tire is really just a tire.. technology has come a long way that any tire will serve. I have some used nitto terra grapplers in the back and 2 goodrich in the front. Ive used cooper tires on a racing car i had. Well ricer streeet racer lol thing had over 250 thousand miles. tires worked well for a good 65 k miles.

I'm a big cooper fan and will have them on 4 of my trucks come this summer. Price is right, they wear well and have good grip in spring, summer and fall conditions. I can't speak to winter capability as i run dedicated snow tires on all my trucks.

I have 315/70/R17s AT3's on my truck now.. I put them on when I was in Alaska and used them through two winters. They work good in snowy icy conditions, but not great like the Cooper M/S's I had sudded for winter on my 05 Ranger. I have around 30k miles on them now and are still doing well but are starting to make a bit of a road hum I do not care for. My guess is because of the size, I think the road noise would be quieter if they were around the stock tire size or not as wide. The center lugs are huge on this tire size. They do work well here in Florida on the sandy beaches and in rainy conditions.
The ATP looks good, I like the shoulder lugs, but I do not have any experience with them.
Either tire should do well on your trip out to Colorado in snowy conditions especially when new.
I've run three different types of Coopers tires, STT's, M/S's, & AT3's, all good tires for the purpose they were made. I thought I'd stay with Cooper for a lot longer but the new Nitto Grappler G2 and AWT are certainly getting my attention. Mainly that G2.
Where in CO are you headed?

I ran the ATP's for a few months and they performed well. Sold those to my Nephew and he was happy with them. I replaced them with S/T Maxx.

Coopers are good tires. I considered getting STT's or ST Maxx's for my truck. The lack of sizes in 20" was what kept me from buying them. I'll consider them again, next time I need tires for the Bronco.

Ditto on the Coopers for me. I've been using Coopers for years. I have the Cooper Cobras on my '94 T'bird, and until I bought the truck, I was using the Cooper Weathermaster II's studded on her. I put a set of the AT3's on the truck a few months after I bought her. Loved them so much, that when I bought my chrome KMC Skitch rims, I put a fresh set on. I've kept the first set on stock rims. When I took those off they had about 21,000 miles on them and they still had about 3/4 tread. The AT'3 have great dry traction. I have a place in West Virginia and I have no problems going up and down the hills in mucky stuff. They handle well too. A lot of guys love them in the snow, but not me so much. I'm a dedicated Studded Winter tire type. So I bought a set of the Cooper Discoverer M+S tires. But I didn't have them studded because I wasn't sure how they would handle on my truck. But, even un-studded the M+S tires are awesome.

I put a set of AT3's on a couple months ago. So far with the little bit of snow and ice we've had they have been great. Not as good as a dedicated snow tire but still very good.

I got some Cooper AT/W's... which are a snow biased all weather tire. You can use it year round because the tread compound is hard enough, but remains pliable in the winter.
I've driven it on icy, snowy, wet and dry roads and have been really surprised by the level of grip afforded by these tires. In Canada, you can get them at the Canadian Tire store, or in the states, from Cooper tires directly.
Check them out.
