I felt better driving my wife's minivan with 4 winter tires versus my truck. This was my 4th winter owning my truck and 2 of those I had the coopers on. First winter I had the stock Goodyears, then 2 years of these Coopers. This winter I had a full set of Hankook winter tires that performed great. But still had a few scattered snow days after I put the Coopers back on.

Even making turns on local streets on wet pavement, it can slip. /shrug

To the OP, discount tire on eBay has 100 off a set right now on both tires. Might be a good time to buy

I'm running 285/70/17 Ridge Grapplers on my truck. I ran them through some pretty extreme winter conditions through the mountains this winter and live in Vancouver, the land of rain. The tires have done extremely well and I am honestly surprised that they aren't snow-flake rated. Bonus is that they are very quiet for the aggressive tread.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these tires based on new performance, but I don't know how they are going to wear as I only have about 6000 miles on them so far.

They work really well in snow too for an AT tire.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Any other reviews?

One of my front shocks is leaking badly so I'm getting Bilstein 5100s installed next week. The shops I've spoken with said I would need to set them at the 2.25" max setting to clear 295/70-18s on my stock wheels. I have a hard time wrapping my brain around needing to raise them that much since only half of the two inch increase in tire height is above the axle. So even though I have a few months of tread left on my tires I would like to get new tires next week also, so I won't feel like I'm driving around on stilts up front.

I have 40,000 on the Cooper St Maxx. They will go to 50k, but I plan to change them out early because I like having deeper tread. Love them. They've spent a lot of time in every condition...a true all-around. As for winter conditions, I had them siped and I've been please with snow and ice traction. However, due to the amount of time I spend in winter conditions, I can't help but wonder if the Ridge Grappler is somehow better on snow and ice. I'm torn because I've been so happy with the St Maxx, and I can run a rotation of 5 tires for the same cost as 4 Ridge Grapplers. Both good looking tires, with the slight edge going to Cooper IMO due to a little more aggressive mud blocking tread on the outside.

Interesting. I love my Coopers in the snow. Better in some ways that the mustang with Snow Tires. And we get plenty of snow here in MN
I run the STTs though, not the ST Maxx.

And they've help up mileage wise extremely well. Around 45,000 miles so far, and plenty of life left in them it looks like.
