Default Convert open to limited slip

2014 Lariat 4X4
When I bought my truck I was somehow under the impression that only the 3.31 rear axle was open on the 2014 4X4's and that all the 3.55 and 3.73 were either limited slip or electronic locking. I would have been happy either way so I just made sure I didn't get a 3.31. To my dismay I have discovered that they do indeed put open 3.55 on these trucks as that is what I am now stuck with (axel code 19).
I did some digging around on this forum and found that people have converted to LS on older models. Since the truck is under full warranty I called my local dealer to get an estimate. They took a day and called me back to say it cannot be done. They said the electronic module would be wrong.
I am not aware of any electrics involved in a limited slip. Could there be something to do with traction control? My other thought is that the dealer service writer was confused and thought I wanted an electronic locker put in?
Can anyone confirm that it is or should be possible to convert before I try a different dealer?

Thank you!

Mike

I asked a similar question to my dealer a few years ago when I considered converting my 2011 from a 3.31 open to a 3.31 locker, they said that they could not install the e-locker however they could convert it to LSD for something like $1200

Thank you. I think I might just go for it for $1200. Spent too much on the truck for something like this to be bothering me so much.

I too ended up the a open diff. It bothers me, but not so much that I am going to swap it out. However I have only owned the truck for a few months so I may change my mind later on.

I looked thru my collision parts catalog, and I cannot find a 3.55 LSD, for the 2014 Lariat 4x4 just a 3.73. Since it was available in prior years, it looks like they might have discontinued it in 2013 in favor of the locker.

I am not sure if the 09-12 will work or even fit in a 13-14 as the part numbers changed for those years.

Not very helpful I know, but I was bored at work and thought this might keep me busy

I picked up a 9.75 limited slip third member for $80 on Craigslist, it was just rebuilt before it was pulled. I have not put it in yet, ring and pinion shop said $200 to install it. I have a 2010 with 3.31 open and I hate it. My last truck had a 3.55 LS and it was perfect for all around use.

Get an Eaton "Detroit" Truetrac L/S. No clutches to wear out like the OEM L/S.

I think a truetrac limited slip diff. Installed is around $750-$800 LS diff is about $460 install kit is is around $150 and install around 150. Shop around and I think you should be able to find it in that area.

Can I ask why you want a LSD? Under some conditions, it's handy to have. But under most conditions the One-Wheel-Spin-Control works really well. Example, if you're stuck in some mud, the 1wsc will do an excellent job simulating an LSD. Same thing on gravel and sand, etc, etc.

Don't get me wrong, it's not as good as a physical LSD, but not sure the difference is worth $1200.

One thing I miss about my LSD, is when pulling out into traffic on wet pavement. Sometimes it takes a second or two for the 1wsc to do it's job, and by that time, I've already spun to much that the traction control comes on, and shuts it down. So, like I said, the LSD does have it's advantages, but how much are those worth?

Flame away...

I am in WI so a lot of driving in snow. The right wheel spin makes it hard to pull away from a snowy curb even. Also I own some land that is essentially a big steep sandy hill. Open rear end 4x4 trucks simply cannot get up the hill.
