Default Convert to Manual Shift 6R80

Folks, I have a 2009 6R80 that does not have the manual shift option. It has a tow/haul button (NOT OD off) and I really love the software change with that button. But I want to be able to control the gear selection as well. I have a shifter with both buttons (tow/haul and gear selection) that I can install but my question is, does anyone know what else is involved with this? Is it just a software change...a total ECM change...valve body change, etc? I would love to do this, but need some direction. I can always go to U.S. Shift for a controller, but that is very expensive and I would lose the Ford tow/haul software...which is outstanding.

Thanks for any help in advance!

I don't think the select shift you speak of was available until 2011 when they changed the electronics and engines.

I believe you are correct. So I need to find out what is involved with switching to the newer stuff...although I believe you could get it behind a 5.4 Flex Fuel if I'm not mistaken. That is what I have.

It might have to do with the BCM and your truck doesn’t have it. Like Rnlcomp said, it started in 2011. I see it as being along the lines of why 2009/2010 trucks can’t do as much as the 11+ ones in forscan. It’s different software.

Would be easier and less expensive to trade up to a 2011 or newer to get this feature.

I know...but what's the fun in that!

Morris, you are correct about no BCM. Mine has a GEM module. I had to shut off the DRL's when I converted to HID's. There aren't a lot of options with the GEM that the BCM has. I believe with a BCM I could have flipped the DRL's to the fog lights. That would have been nice.

Thanks for your help guys. Guess I need to do some more homework. I really like this truck and don't want to trade it.

Electronics in these things are so integrated these days. I doubt it will be as easy as throwing in a BCM and it will work. Getting all the bits to talk to each other is going to be a challenge. Even getting the wiring to match is going to be next to impossible.
