Control module replacement needed?
So I took my truck to the dealer today to have them check the transmission hard shifting on occasion and also because the rear window defroster and heated mirrors won't come on, and just lately sometimes the key pad won't work. Yesterday the damn thing wouldn't open the doors and locked me out for most of the day, then suddenly worked. It must have know I was getting ready to break a window to get in, since my only keys were in the truck and I wasn't home.
Anyway, after some time the service manager called to tell me that they were able to reproduce the problem. It is a control module. He didn't say which one and I should have asked more, but didn't. He says they will have to build one that no dealer has one and the factory doesn't have one either. Seems a little strange since ford has built a billion of these trucks and I am the first in the country to experience this! lol He said a couple of weeks and if it doesn't ship they can call their ford rep and have one pulled off the factory floor. Supposedly this module will fix my rear window defroster, heated mirrors and trans issues. Pretty cool, huh?? Anyone else heard such a thing?

Based on what isn't working I'd have to guess it is the BCM- body control module that is on the fritz. Availability might be in part because of the recall on the 2011s- I think that recalled part is a BCM too. I don't know however if the BCM is the same for both years.
Never heard of that particular issue, but last year mys PATS control module fried, so the truck shut down while I was driving it, and it took them 17 days to get a replacement out of a truck on the factory line. According to my service dept at the time, they said that a lot of the control modules / computers have been redesigned in the 2009+ years, so there isn't a lot of parts stock of them, because basically every one they build goes into a new truck.
