Construction Usage for 2013 4x4 Ecoboost
Thought some of you guys might be interested in this.
I work for the National Solar Observatory, and we've started construction of a new large observatory in Maui, HI. Most of our work trucks are F250 4x4s, but we've started buying F150s S/Crews for personnel transport to the job site. Our base offices are at 3,000ft elevation, and the trucks are driven daily from there round trip to the summit of Haleakala at 10,000ft. Very steep roads, lots of switchbacks, tons of tourists to deal with (due to driving through a National Park to get to the job site), heavy loads carried in the bed, minimum of 3 people in the cab every day plus their gear and tools, rough condition roads at the top, snow, ice, rain... you name it, we're abusing the trucks with it.
Anyway, the first of these F150 trucks just passed the 1 year ownership mark. We've put about 28K miles on this particular truck in that time frame. It's an early 2013 4x4 with the EcoBoost:
So far on this truck we've been through three sets of brake pads, plus had to have the rotors turned once. Otherwise, there's been no other issues to report, and the truck still seems to run like it did when we took it off the dealers lot. EcoBoost is holding up great, with excellent power and good gas mileage. We do regular oil changes and normal maintenance.
Construction is expected to continue through 2019, so we're going to end up putting around 175K+ hard miles on these trucks by the time we're done. I'll report back occasionally with updates and/or any major issues we encounter.

Retired and loving it!
That's good to know, and I am sure that we all here would like updates as this truck has those kinds of miles piled on it!
The EB is usually not as affected by altitude as other engines -- have you found this to be the case?

Are the brakes being ridden coming down? Locking the truck into 3 or 2 might help.
