Default Considering doing a tune on a 5.0 FX4

Hello,

I am considering doing a tune on my 2014 Ford F150 5.0L. I was reviewing multiple threads on the forum and most users utilize the SCTX3 or 4 tuner. My truck is completely stock (including the stock sport wheels I purchased to replace the ugly 18s). Could someone please provide additional information on the following:
  • What is the difference between the following tunes: RWHP / 13 RWTQ (87 Octane) and 23 RWHP / 25 RWTQ (93 Octane). I primarily run 87 Octane, do highway driving (long trips FL to NY) and do not tow often (currently).
  • Did you notice a minor increase in MPG?
  • What about power and shifting?
  • Did you notice any negative impacts such as needed repairs etc?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

Picture for reference added below:

I've got half a dozen or so custom tunes for all octanes for when I may travel as not every place has all the same octanes, from 5* and MPT utilizing the sctx4, (holds up to 10 custom tunes) What I've been running as a DD for a couple years now is an MPT 93 race tune. Huge difference in performance, literally night/day. Also MPT allows you to use the tow/haul button as a sort of sport/touring mode switch that tames the shift patterns closer to normal for everyday driving.

They have dyno charts on both their websites where you can see hp differences.

My only regret is not buying it sooner.

I highly recommend MPT. They woke up my truck(14' F-150 5.0). I now have a homemade K&N(ebay pipe and K&N filter) and a Flowmaster 40 series. Combine the better breathing with more fuel it woke up.

Thank you both! I am looking for something to wake the truck up, adjust the shifting and provide maybe a minor MPG gain (not looking for miracles here). Is it worth doing the 93 over the 87 tune? I dont really want to run 93 daily since the price difference is HUGE.

Before I lifted my truck and put on 35" tires I was running an 87 performance/tow tune from 5* and was getting good power and mileage on the hwy was averaging 25mpg but yes there is a significant difference in power between that tune and the 93 race I run now. Do you have access to any E85 down your way? If so it's cheaper than 87 but provides 105 octane so you can run the 93 tune. That's what I'm doing now that there's a station close to me. Fuel economy takes a hit but the added power makes the truck so much more fun to drive.

I do not have easy access to E85 unfortunately. If I did, I would like go with the 93 tune. Did you notice a sizeable difference between stock and the 87 performance tune?

5star, MPT, Omega.

Any will do wonders. Do your research and pick.
