Common Problems For 2009-2014 F150s
#11
I've had several of these trucks and overtime they ALL seem to have these problems:
- Passenger side exhaust leak at the manifold
- Headliner will sag by the sunroof
- Driver and passenger side temperature actuators make a clicking sound and eventually fail
- Third brake light will leak water into the headliner
- Rear driver and passenger side door harness wires will crack and tear apart inside the rubber accordion boot
- Transmission leak at the bulkhead sleeve connector
Every single one of my trucks had this issue and I thought I'd let future buyers know what to look for when buying a used '09-'14 F-150.

2011 XLT screw w/ 3.7L and 140,000 miles on it. The only issue that I have is a 'kick' when the transmission jumps into 2nd when in stop and go traffic. I've seen it pop up a couple of times on this and other forums, sounds like a product of speed/engine rpm rather than a mechanical issue.
Other than that, it runs like a champ. I do around 35k hard highway miles/year in Georgia, no rust or leaking that I've noticed, gaskets and seals are all good.

Can anyone tell me more about the exhaust manifold leak? I assume it's engine-specific... I have this diagnosis on my 5.4L but due to a broken bolt/stud they'd have to pull the engine to replace the gasket and/or manifold. I don't have a quote on this yet, but I assume it won't be cheap. Can I just let it go with the leak? What's the downside?

I know Ford garage likes to pull head or engine if stud is broke even or below surface of head. But others will weld a nut or washer to stub and turn out. I've done that. Never heard anyone pull engine if some stud sticking out. Lots will drill out stud in truck, hope I never have to do that. What year is your truck?
Do a google search "F150forum exhaust stud" These forum searches suck. Most forums must use the same software.

Rotors replaced at 25000 miles
The garage replaced all four rotors yesterday. My 2013 3.5 eb truck has 25,000 miles (40,000km). Originally they were going to machine the rotors but changed their minds so replaced them completely. The brake pads are fine, 6mm lining left. I didn't ask why they replaced the rotors because I'm happy it was all covered under the Ford Maintenance program! I have put about 10,000 km (25% of total) on the truck towing a 25 foot, 6000 lb trailer. Perhaps all the towing warped or stressed out the rotors?
I'm just curious if others had similar experiences?

Can you tell me a little more about the transmission leak at the bulkhead. I recently purchased a 2013 fx4 screw with 30K on it. (sold my 13 raptor and now waiting on 17) Anyhow the truck is great but the underneath is always grimy and sometimes i get a tiny bit of (oil, grease?) residue on lower lip of tailgate. Barely noticeable, but obviously its coming from somewhere. The other interesting thing is it is garaged kept, and there has never been as much as a drop of fluid on the floor.

I have a '13 with almost 35,000 miles, bought new. It's an Ecoboost.
The only problem I've had with my truck is the Mass Air Flow sensor starting flaking out and I replaced that last week. Cost $40 bucks for the part at the dealer and took me about 5 minutes to change.
No other issues.
