I have the Icon 2.5s. Before I had a strut spacer too ad that was horrible. These coilovers are great. Very smooth on road, and dampen over the bigger hits off road. Also, they can actually flex pretty well if you take the sway bar off. I do not have the UCAs, but I wish I did. The stock ball joints and very limited travel do not do the Icons justice. Still, I drive my truck very hard off road, and they handle all of it. Mine are put in the leveled position and I don't have any problems with rubbing of the UCA and coils. If you have the funds, get both and you'll love it. If you have any questions, ask. 😜

Just put ICON's on my 2013 4X4 Supercab today after removing the FOX 2.5 F&R's.... night and say difference!

I had the FOX on for a few days and quickly decided to remove it (see prior post). The ICON is soooo much smoother on the road that its not even funny! Rides just like my 2009 GMC Sierra did with the same ICON set-up.... like butter.

The truck now sits about 1-1.25 inches lower than it did with the 2.5 FOX system. The FOX 2.5 system (all w/reservoirs) made my truck ride a bit like a stock Super Duty in my opinion. Im 6'3" and the FOX system made getting in and out a bit more tricky even with a 35" pant leg inseam (Im running a 33" Tire). All I have to do is walk in my garage now and can easily see how much lower the ICON sits than the FOX. The FOX 2.5 system was noticeably higher.

I would best describe the ICON as: "The Gentleman's Coil-over". The FOX 2.5 F&R system definitely looked bad *** and would be great if I was looking for something to "BANZAI BAJA" with.. but not day to day. I no longer hear spare change in cup-holders or CD's rattling in doors anymore! LOL

Hope this review helps anyone on the fence between the two? Even the salesman who sold me the FOX system to begin with couldn't believe how much of a noticeable difference their was between FOX vs. ICON out on the street. He personally has an 2013 FX2 SC and also commented the ICON's ride better than his own Bilstein shock set up.

I've kind of followed this thread. And I had some questions if y'all don't mind explaining to someone who doesn't understand these things extremely well.

1) Are coil overs the part that goes over the shock and what their functional purpose?

2) if I put Icons will the ride be better than with the 1.5" spacer I have now? And will I maintain the same lift?

3) do you need to replace the UCAs when installing a coil over?

Thanks in advance guys

Thanks for the informative posts. I would like to get a smoother ride, but I don't want to raise the truck (won't fit in to the parkade at work).

Can you post a link or model numbers of the ICON parts you got?

Lastly, the other big name in suspension that I know is King...do you have any insight in to their products?

Thanks!

1.) Does not raise the vehicle with the ICON's.. only levels the front like your spacers currently do. The FOX slightly raised the ENTIRE vehicle about 1" to 1.25" more than the ICON's do (but it still fit in a my standard 2 car garage). And remember.. thats with the FOX 2.5 Front & Rears, not 2.0's.

2.) go to..
http://www.iconvehicledynamics.com/s...nsion-Systems/

3.) I dont have any experience with KING but they are in the same league as ICON and much more of an off-road race shock.

1.) coil = the coil spring. the shock sits inside that. I think you already know what a spring does :-)

2.) yes, the ride will be better than with a spacer... w/o a doubt. Where do you think you get that 2 inches of leveling.. its taken from your suspension travel. This guy said it the best on another F150 Forum:

Spacer lifts can cause a few problems and cost you big dollars to fix. First there are a few different kinds of spacer lifts, there is the kind that just bolts on the top of the existing shock that spaces it down to give lift. The problem that can come from running this kind of spacer is the shock will now be allowed to droop to far downward causing binding and damage to ball joints, 4×4 axle cv’s, and steering joints. The other issue you might have is since the shock is now just pushed down when you bottom out the suspension on or off-road instead of hitting the bumpstops you will just bottom out the shock. This can lead to some hefty damage. The next kind of spacer lift available are the preload spacers. These will usually cause the coil springs to be preloaded to give lift. The side effect to this type of lift is the shock valving is not designed for the extra preload of the spring giving the ride a bad bouncy feel that sometimes feels uncontrolled. And in some cases we have seen the spring coilbind causing damage to the shock and the frame. This is because the spring is designed to move about 1/2 its total length so when you pre-load them they are now compressed to much so near bottom out they will bind before you hit the bump-stops

3.) I ran the stock Upper Control Arms on a 2009 GMC Sierra 4x4 and installed ICON coil-overs when it was brand new. At 30K miles... the ball joint on the drivers side was starting to pop under hard compression. I now invested in a Total Chao's UCA's on my new 2013 F150 when I did the ICON's .. enough said.

Thanks for the info. I like the look of the level Just wanted to know if there was a better way in the future (I know about Bilstein shocks but they seem to ride rough).

Edit:
If you don't mind me asking, how much did the Icon set up run you?

the complete kit runs retails about $1600 from Icon not including the Upper Control Arms... I paid a couple hundred less

Phew pricey. But that usually means it would be worth it.
Thanks for your answers!
