i had a toyota tacoma 2012 brand new that had the same issue, clunk sound when going over pot holes or bumps. took it to the dealer 2 times and on the second time the mech and i went to the back of their lot where there was a speed bump, he finally heard the noise, so we started taking stuff out off the truck that was loose, while he stood next to the speed bump i would drive over it, until a few more passes we narrowed it down the the TRAILER HITCH RECEIVER we removed it and the noise was gone.it turns out my receiver had some play(movement) and that was the noise, man did i feel like a idiot. now i have a 2013 f-150XLT crew 5.0 and love it

I was going to suggest that the receiver hitch could be the cause. My wife pointed it out for me. Check that first. I'd bet it is at least the cause for some of you. Maybe all.

mine has been making a sound also, but i hear it kind of when i pull into my driveway and i got over the first part. Also get a lot of squeaking from my suspension. But i guess i wont be spraying anything on my leaf springs!

My 13 makes this noise too and I even started a thread about it but didn't get any feedback.

I had 2 issues on my 2010, but only after I made some changes.
1. When I put taller tires on, it gave the emergency brake cable enough room to slide back and forth on the leaf spring. A zip tie fixed it.
2. This sounds more like your problem though, after replacing my rear shocks, I didn't tighten them enough and the shock was sliding on the top mount. It made a popping sound when I went over small bumps. I could even replicate it by jumping up and down in the bed. I tightened it and solved that issue.
Good luck.

Now that I think about it, I was towing my camper when I heard it.

2013 screw 157" 5.0

Mine makes a hard clunk...almost snapping sound under hard acceleration at times. Same noise?? I've since installed RAS...no more clunk/snap. Since the ras resolved it...my case...had to be leaf related or drive line bind. I can tell ya...there's no mistaking the sound...at least in my case...it would jolt the truck pretty good.

Thanks for the info! I read your post this morning before I went into work, so I pulled the Ball Mount out and drove to work. Lo and behold, drove over the train tracks with no clunk.

I turned around and drove over them a couple more times to be sure, and still no clunk. I hear a little noise going over them, but now it just sounds like tire noise.

I feel pretty dumb, but I'm glad to know what the issue is, and that it's not a mechanical problem in the rear suspension.

makes me feel good that you figured it out IowaSTX. because it took me 2 trips to the dealer missing time from work and the dealer was about to open a claim with toyota engineers because they couldn't figure it out either until we did what i posted earlier.
