Default Chrome 'Skullcap' mirror

Has anyone swapped, or knows how to swap the black plastic mirror top with a chrome top? I'm looking to add a few chrome accents and don't want to pay for all new mirror assemblies. Ford has an oem skullcap for non-tow mirrors. about $125 on ebay. and no, I'm not going with stick-ons. Just wondering how difficult it will be.

It's really easy. There's a few write ups on here. It's basically removing the mirror glass, then there's 4, t-15 torx screws that hold it on. If i can find the thread I'll link it

If you dont wont to risk breaking a mirror and dont plan on keeping or selling the black ones. You can just take a flat blade screwdriver on the outside corner at the base where theres a split in the mirror and just pry out the corner a little bit and then push up and out at the same time pops right off. It took me about 15 mins to do both sides.

I put them on my 2012 xlt! Took me two minutes. I held the mirror against my chest, the other side nearest to truck in my hand. Grabbed ahold of the black cap and Ripped it off, it has 4 cheap thin plastic clips that will snap off!

Then just pop in the new chrome or painted cap and enjoy!
