Just received word from insurance company -- Truck is indeed a total loss. I don't have word on their offer yet as that will come from the Total Loss dept...hopefully later today.

Question now is whether I upgrade or just try to find a deal on a 2010 version of the same truck...

I know this is a religious topic around these parts, but I have always wanted a 4x4... (owned 2 4x2 trucks in the past)

Has anyone here been successful getting insurance company to compensate for TT&L also?

I don't know where you are at....I'm in Nebraska and I wouldn't own a truck without it...It's just a lot of weight in the front and nothing in the back...I know 4x4 "can" have more problems and more things that could go wrong, they might even get worse gas mileage, IDK...but I wouldn't want it any other way...I'd go for the new one...I mean you still have to pay for it right? haha

TT&L are irrelevant. Your insurance company is going to give you (or your bank) a check for what they value the truck at. If that leaves you short of payoff I hope you have gap insurance. If it is over payoff you'll pocket the rest to put towards your new vehicle. Unfortunately you won't get replacement value, just value..

Good luck and let us know what they tell ya!

As for maintaining it, that is what ESP contracts are for. With a 100k extended warranty, if a transfer case grenades, let the Ford dealer handle it.

Default Sometimes...Total Loss Payment is Reasonable...

OK - So for anyone interested in how the total loss payment negotiation played out:

Summary -- I ended up < $800 off of what I paid (including TT&L) for my truck 2 years ago when I drove it off the lot.

It was still a low mileage truck & I felt like I got a pretty good deal 2 yrs back (even at beginning of the 09 model year because industry was in the toilet). Deal was similar to some of the 2010 blowout deals we see available now.

First offer from insurance co was not as low as I expected, and I was preparing for a throw down. They initially offered a value for the truck (low but not obscene), plus sales tax based on that value, plus pro-rated fees.

I asked them to send me the valuation report and did some research myself. The next day I called a few times to renegotiate and squeezed out another 7% - 8%.

The person that hit my truck has the same ins company, and I also own other products through the company so they may have been a bit friendler to me because of this.

I have thought of a few angles to squeeze again, but I am also at a point where the deal seems fair and I haven't had to play dirty -- so now I'm focused on the dealers ...

Hope to post pics of a new truck soon.

Hey great news on the settlement. Do you have any interest in the new EB engine. I saw advertisement during the Packers game yesterday where "EPA estimates 22 MPG". This was the first time I ever heard any actual MPG figures other than "best in class and all that bs". I road tested a 150 with the Eco boost in December and all I can say is that it has way more ***** than the 5.4 in my 06 Lariat and pulls much stronger. I was all set to order a new 150 with the new 6.2, but since it's not my daily driver, decided to wait and see how these two motors pan out in the real word. EB torture test vids look pretty real world, but we'll have to see.
