Check Fuel Fill Inlet
"Check Fuel Fill Inlet" popped up on my in dash screen this morning when driving on the highway. "2011 F150 5.0" Wondering if anybody knows what it means and if I should take it in?
Thanks in advance.

I have had this before (and posted about it)
It's the flap that the pump nozzle opens and closes.
cycle it a couple of times.
The warning may not go away immediately but will eventually....

I have a 2009 F150, 5.4L V8 with a capless fuel filler. I had the same message that came on and then the "Check Engine" light also came on. Took it to the Ford Dealer and was told they need $124 to perform diagnostics. After that they said the fuel inlet tube has a leak and needs to be replaced for environmental compliance. Parts and labor comes to $450 plus the diagnostics costs. They had to order the part so they let me have my truck until the part arrives. I may just pay them for the dignostics and forget about installing the part. Engine performance isn't affected and I don't have the money to install the part. Doing a search on Google disclosed this is a common occurrence on all new Ford models. Seems like Ford installed a defective part and is making consumers pay for it.

Sorry to hear this. I assume you are beyond the basic warranty, but what about the emissions defects and emissions performance warranty?
Some parts for those are covered up 5/50,000 and or up to 8/80,000 depending on GVWR and the part etc.
Good luck though. Thx.

I have 44K miles on the truck so it's out of the warranty period. They said they checked for emissions warranty and it doesn't qualify. There are no emissions actually leaking. It's just the sensors sending a check engine message that's the problem. No engine performance issues and no vapor leaks. Ford just wants me to pay them $500+ for a defective part that is inherent with these capless fuel fillers. They even issued a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) to the service departments on this so they know its a problem with a sensor and nothing else.

it's probably the pressure sensor saying the cap is loose. ODBII cars with the capped gas filllers would throw a code if you forgot to put the cap on, or didnt get it tight enough. Which means that the newfangled doohicky they use for the capless system is leaking backpressure. Not a problem unless you have emmissions checks, then it needs to be fixed to pass.

If it was an actual leak, one of those fancy things called a gascap might solve the issue, I believe there are caps that fit on the capless filler.
if its a bad sensor - likely not, but maybe worth a try.
