Default Check 4x4 light

I have a 2010 F150 Lariat. When I try to engage 4x4 dash says "shifting in progress", then Check 4x4 light comes on. Does not engage. Checked for codes and none. Checked all fuses, no problems. Thought it might be the transfer case shift motor but would rather not spend the money if this is not the issue. Any recommendation on what else to check or how to confirm it is the shift motor? Thanks

Most likely the shift motor -
The one I had the glue holding the ceramic disc to the hub (inside shift motor) gave out causing the computer to get lost and gave the 4x4 error

I'm having the same problem with my 2010 Lariat. Is either problem/fix mentioned here more likely to be the cure than the other? Seldom have need for 4x4 on Oklahoma highways, but out cities don't take care of neighborhood streets at all and I could've used it this week. Is 4x4 possibly working at all? When I saw the message I went ahead and switched back to 4x2 as a precaution. Maya be a couple of months before I can look bat this in depth and I'd appreciate any feedback.
