Default CEL Flashing

I noticed that if I get in my truck and just turn it to on, but not start the truck it will flash the CEL I think about 4 or 5 times and then stop and then just stay solid until I start the truck up.

Is this an indication there is a stored code or issue? I attempted to read the codes on the truck with my SCT tuner, but it doesn't pull anything in at all.

Kind of wondering what you all think and what I should do?

Mine does the same thing. Not sure if it is normal or not.

Do you have your truck tuned or is it stock?

I was just wondering cause if my truck and his truck are tuned and are doing this but others who are stock don't see this problem, then it would kind of maybe answer my question as to why it flashes before starting the truck up, but if his is stock then it would lead me to have to find another answer if it is screwed up at all.

I'm sure it is normal cause I never noticed it in the past cause I never really just sit there with the key switched on that long before starting my truck up, but I noticed it when I was messing with my phone and Sync.

First, it's not normal. If you read your owners manual, you will find that the CEL comes on when you turn the key on. If there are no issues, the light will go out. If the light flashes 8 times, it indicates the emissions readiness tests are not ready.

Now, someone asked why it would matter if the truck has a tune. Some tuners turn off all of the emissions readiness testing functions as part of their tune. 5 Star did when I bought my custom tunes. Why does this matter, well if you live in a state that has a OBDII check as part of the inspection, you will not pass inspection. Now, that's just a hassle because you have to remember to return to stock with an adequate amount of time for the emissions readiness testing to be sucessfully completed before you go for your sticker.

So, that's likely the problem in this case. Who did you buy your custom tune from?

I got in my truck just now and it does blink 8 times with the key being set to the "on" position after about 10 to 15 seconds and then after blinking 8 times it'll just stay solid until I start the truck up.

Once I start the truck up it will go away and there are no issues.

As for the actual CEL going away when the truck is just set at the "on" position doesn't make sense to me. Cause my boss has a 2011 F-150 and when you get in his truck the CEL won't flash 8 times or at all, but it stays solid until you decide to start the truck up.

I guess it flashing 8 times has caused a problem, but how do I go about finding out the issue?
