We don't have the ability to read data from the black box.. That's only used in circumstances where the insurance or police need to know exactly what happened because physical evidence isn't making sense.

Having a tuner doesn't void your warranty anyway, unless you're abusing the truck so don't worry about that.

Also, I'm 99% sure if the dealer updates your PCM your tuner will read it as a different part number and think you're trying to use it on a different truck and you'll have to unlock the tuner, which usually means sending it in to the manufacturer and $75 I think, so tell them to call you before doing a PCM update, or just not to do one at all, because sometimes under warranty we'll just do them without notifying the customer because Ford gets the bill.

Sounds like you work for a reputable dealer. Just like doctors scamming Medicare for thousands with unnecessary procedures.

Where do you work? I want to be sure I never bring my vehicle there for service.

Doesn't sound like he's scamming anyone.. they do it to help the customer out and its covered under warranty anyway.. so even if they were "scamming" its coming outta fords pocket not yours. They wouldn't do it if it wasn't covered.

I know that there not stealing from me...they're stealing from Ford Corporate. Guess how that cost gets absorbed? Higher product prices meaning you and I, the consumer, pay higher prices.

Just like doctors charging Medicare for thing not needed. "The government pays it, its no big deal" Yeah, except the government gets its money from the taxpayers.

Stealing is stealing, doesn't matter who its from. This kind of logic is why the world is where it is today.

True ..... to be safe & prevent that or a no start condition...... Before taking your vehicle in for service (after U return the vehicle to the stock program and use the Programmer to read the strategy) write that info down and save it for when the dealer is finished with ur vehicle. ( a performance part on the vehicle that requires the custom tune got 2 b removed if you plan to drive the vehicle with the stock program).

Once the dealership is finished with the vehicle you can use ur Programmer again to pull the strategy. If it is not same strategy as b4 you entered the dealership DO NOT load your custom tune back on the vehicle (could result in a no start or lock up ur PCM. Contact ur tune people to modify your current tunes 2 work with the new strategy.

@ maplelakeduckslayer
I think u misunderstood what was said by Austin97.
What he meant to say was when the PMC needs an update they go ahead and do it without saying anything to the owner of the vehicle. He didn't say they don't do anything and bill Ford.
If he saw a minor problem with your truck, like a hose clamp needed to be replace or tightened and he went a head and did the work and billed Ford, what's your problem with that.
I'd be happy. He could just send you on your way!
Or he could stop, let the service manager know what he found, the service manager then could call you, and of course your going to say yes please tighten the hose clamp or update the PMC, then the service manager can go tell the mechanic, then he can do the work all the while his bay is being blocked.
BTW do you think he is stupid enough to say something like that here?
He was just trying to offer you some incite form his point of view.
I hope you reread what he wrote and apologize for calling him a liar and thief.

Never said he was a liar and thief...I said the dealership was. If it is something that needs to be done, thats great, they can do it. The way it reads it sounded like they do it whether or not it is needed because the customer does not have to pay for it.

If you mean't to say you do it without telling the customer if it needs to be done, then I apologize. If you are just doing random **** to bill Ford for, that is wrong and I don't apologize for that. I guess the original post is not written very clearly.

As far as people actually posting stuff like that in a public forum...yes, happens all the time. Had a guy on an outdoors forum post he was very excited because he shot a snow goose during the early Canada goose season(almost unheard of to see a snow goose in MN in early September). Only problem is they are not legal to shoot during the early CANADA GOOSE season.

You guys kinda got it figured out yourselves, but yeah, when Ford releases a PCM update it's because the current programming in the PCM isn't as good as it could be. So yes, we update them when new revisions are released because Ford either found a bug or something that they could improve and it benefits the customer.

It's basically the same thing as when Wondows does it's automatic updates from time to time.
