BTW I bought one off of ebay years ago for my Mustang and it worked a couple of times and then stopped,, I reprogrammed it again and the same results, so I just threw it out and go another one which worked and still does to this day. So a defect chip could be the case. If you have a good dealer they might be able to check it and if need be change it for free.

From my 2009 manual:

Programming spare keys
A maximum of eight keys can be coded to your vehicle. Only
SecuriLock™ keys can be used. To program a coded key yourself, you
will need two previously programmed coded keys (keys that already
operate your vehicle’s engine) and the new unprogrammed key(s) readily
accessible for timely implementation of each step in the procedure.
If two previously programmed coded keys are not available, you must
bring your vehicle to your authorized dealer to have the spare coded
key(s) programmed.
Please read and understand the entire procedure before you begin.
1. Insert the first previously
programmed coded key into the
ignition.
2. Turn the ignition from the 1 (off)
position to the 3 (on) position. Keep
the ignition in the 3 (on) position
for at least three seconds, but no
more than 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition to the 1 (off)
position and remove the first coded
key from the ignition.
4. After three seconds but within 10 seconds of turning the ignition to
the 1 (off) position, insert the second previously coded key into the
ignition.
5. Turn the ignition from the 1 (off) position to the 3 (on) position. Keep
the ignition in the 3 (on) position for at least three seconds, but no more
than 10 seconds.
6. Turn the ignition to the 1 (off) position and remove the second
previously programmed coded key from the ignition.
7. After three seconds but within 20 seconds of turning the ignition to
the 1 (off) position and removing the previously programmed coded
key, insert the new unprogrammed key (new key/valet key) into the
ignition.
8. Turn the ignition from the 1 (off) position to the 3 (on) position. Keep
the ignition in the 3 (on) position for at least six seconds.
9. Remove the newly programmed coded key from the ignition.
If successful, the new coded key(s) will start the vehicle’s engine and the
theft indicator will illuminate for three seconds and then go out.
If not successful, the new coded key(s) will not start the vehicle’s engine
and the theft indicator will flash on and off and you may repeat Steps 1
through 5. If failure repeats, bring your vehicle to your authorized dealer
to have the new spare key(s) programmed.

You can only have a max of 4 keys programmed if you lost one and it was programmed it is still in there not allowing you to program the 4th. Look under mkeys if you have the display it will tell u number of keys programmed,

Default Not in 2009-2010

There is no mkeys for 2009-2010 trucks. If you follow the instructions above, it should work...if the key has the correct RFID chip. I was under the impression that the RFID frequency range changed on 2011+ trucks. If the OP's key has the wrong one, it will never program. I actually have 5 keys and 4 remotes for my truck. I programmed 3 of the keys and 2 of the remotes myself.

So if you only have one key fob you need ford to program it? I want to get a second key for obvious reasons and I have found the requisite you tube videos on programming. I'm getting from this forum though the dealer may not be full of bs, and they have to program it. Am I correct in the fact that the second key has to be done by the dealer?

To program the new key to start the truck you need two keys already programmed, put the 1st key in and turn to run and let the gauges cycle, take that key out and insert the other programmed key and let the gauges cycle, take it out and insert each new key in the same fashion one at a time so the gauges cycle.

That should do it.

.
I was wondering where the instructions regarding the programming/adding remotes is located. I've searched through the Owners Manual and the only reference is for programming the IKT's. I also wanted to know if this process removes any previously added remotes ? Since you're pressing a button on each of the keys, does it remove any of them that are not pressed ?
