Default Can't program new key

Guys,

I have a 2010 lariat. I bought a new key fob key combined from eBay and had it cut. It's a key like the 2011's. I tried to program it today with no luck. I did however get the keypad to program but when the keypad programmed I lost my other two keypads. Ny help on getting all 3 to work would be helpfull. I have 2 original keys with keypads. And a new 2011 combined key/fob

To program the fob part of the keys you cycle the ignition on/off several times until the door locks cycle, then press any key on the 1st fob, the locks will cycle to let you know that one is programmed, now press a key on all the others one at a time, the locks will cycle with every fob that is programmed, now turn the ignition to the off position and the locks will cycle one final time to indicate the programming mode is done.

To program the new key to start the truck you need two keys already programmed, put the 1st key in and turn to run and let the gauges cycle, take that key out and insert the other programmed key and let the gauges cycle, take it out and insert each new key in the same fashion one at a time so the gauges cycle.

That should do it.

Ok that may be why I only have the one fob that is the only one that I pushed a button on. I do have the 2 keys and the one new I will try it again and wait for the gauges to cycle. Maybe I didn't wait long enough.

For the 2012 it states to put the 1st programmed key and turn to the run position and leave it there for approximately 6 seconds and then remove, the next programmed key has to be placed in the ignition in less then 10 seconds and then repeat to the run for 6 seconds. same goes for the programmed key. this may be the same things in time as the gauge cycle Rnlcomp stated or could be different due to the years, but once you are done with the 3rd key the doors should lock and unlock to show it has worked.

If neither of the two methods work for you then it could be two things. I defective key or there is a internal setting called (customer spare key programming) that could be disabled and if so would have to be changed by the dealer.

Thanks, I will keep trying. I want to avoid the dealer but we'll see. Any idea how much it may cost?

Take your time, put 1st programmed key in and turn to the on position, once the gauges cycle take it out and put other programmed key in and wait for the cycle, now put the new key in and turn to run and wait for gauge cycle, remove key and wait about 5 secs, now put any key in and start the truck, when it starts shut it down and repeat for remaining keys.

I did try to program the key again with no luck. Can this feature be turned off by the dealer?

since you have tried several times with the different methods provided I would say it has to be one of the following.
1. bad key! even though the remote part works it doesn't mean it doesn't have a bad chip for the PATs. so there is the remote part and the pats part.
2. yes there is a setting (at least in the 2012 service manual) that can be enabled or disabled for more than the two programmed keys as I mentioned before.
3, here I am not so positive but they made different chips for a series of years. I think it started in 1996, but I know they changed them for the 2011 year. but I also think they are backward compatible. I also hear they are changing it again for the 2015 models if I am not mistaking. So it could be possible that the chip isn't the right one for the truck but this would be the least of the reasons I stated.
