my truck seems like it would do the same thing as the tundra but without the crazy bed shake. if i were to drive over the same bumps as in the video the back end would be floating left and right similar to the tundra. i can set cruise control at 75mph on the highway and as soon as some bumps on the road come, all of the sudden the back gets shaky and i have to correct it with steering. its been really frustrating and almost makes me hate driving it on the highway as it seems like it can get dangerous.

i understand it is not like a performance car but i do know that it shouldn't be getting loose the way it does. for the limited time i had the oem set up it didn't do it. i have about 42k miles and don't offroad much so i would think the shocks are ok, but will have them checked them out.

You may look I to better shocks for the rear, the stockers were causing my truck *** end to hop around and I'm stock, adding heavier tires and rims just exacerbate the problem.

I added a pair of Bilstein 5100 and it is way more dampened and controlled out back now.

The rear shocks may be shot. If they can't keep the rear axle under control it'll bounce all over the place and ride very unpredictably.

A family member of mine recently has shocks go bad on her Tahoe, needless to say it was SCARY to ride in. Riding across a concrete bridge at highway speeds it was jumping around all over the place. A few times it jumped into the neighboring lane, thankfully nobody was near us

Change your shocks! Problem solved made a huge difference on my truck
Like others said make sure everything is tight. If you haul heavy loads change your leaf springs.

I see what you guys are saying and will definitely try that route. As for the Tahoe incident, thats pretty much close to what I am experiencing. Normal flat roads are fine but soon as a bump/s comes the back end gets crazy.

I am definitely going to look into the shocks. Ive seen that bilsteins tend to be a bit rough so im considering the Rancho Quicklift front and rear since their shocks are adjustable and they have a rebate going on right now. The only possible issue i see with the rancho is how much lift they will provide upfront since I have a Screw and some people have experienced less than advertised.

The thing that makes me upset if this is the solution is that about a year and a half ago I had a banks exhaust installed and they guy who installed it said that my rear shocks are done for (leaking), so the next time i took the truck to the dealer for service, i asked them to check the shocks and they said everything looked ok. Ever since then, maybe 3 or 4 times for service, they always marked the shocks being ok on the checklist form. well if my shocks are done for, then that's messed up that they didnt actually check and just marked them being ok.

I can't say this plainly enough:

Bilstein 5100s do NOT make the ride harsh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those who think they do are running too high tire pressure. Period!

My 5100s are almost too plush. They are very comfortable. I run my Bridgestone REVO II tire at 45-50psi.

A lot of different people ride with me all week long, and the ride in my truck has been described as "Cadillac-like" (yuck! GM.... )

Get the 5100s. You won't be sorry. And, if you EVER are sorry about them, Bilstein has an unconditional buy-back program if you don't like their shocks for ANY reason, no questions asked.

interesting, in the car suspension world, bilsteins are pretty much top quality other than going to a full race set up. i wondered why they got a bad rep on the forum. main things ive seen is a harsher ride but better cornering etc and some reported that they break and dont take to well to winter weather. i see that you have a screw, which setting did you use and did they level the front even with the rear? possible ride issues seem to be from putting them on the highest level rather than somewhere in between.

I set the fronts at the 1.5" (middle) setting.

FWIW, that has nothing to do with how the rear end feels. The shocks on the rear regardless (no adjustment)

I'd venture that one of the shocks failed. Second guess is a sway bar is broken.

after taking a closer look under the truck, i see that the passenger side rear shock must be shot (black tar looking stuff all over it). So now the question is, should i try to get it replaced with another oem or buy a set of aftermarket? if aftermarket, i was debating between the bilstein 5100 or rancho quicklift all around but both don't seem to provide enough lift or as with the bilsteins, the highest setting results in rougher ride, which i don't want.
the other option im looking at is getting the standard shocks from either company (HD's or Rs9000) and still using an autospring spacer. ive tried to research about this but have not seen too many people go that route and wanted to what everyone's opinion is? if i do go that route, i would do a 2" autospring level (currently have 1.5") and maybe add the roadmaster active suspension to the rear (raises rear 3/4"). any thoughts on which direction would be best?
