Default Canadian VS American packages

I couldn't help but notice while on the Ford.ca and Ford.com websites there are different packages for different cab configurations.

For example I have been considering a Reg Cab VS Scab over the past little while and after looking at some pictures and threads tonight I wanted to price up a new STX Reg Cab w/ 6.5 box. To my surprise the STX option was not available on the Canadian site for the Reg yet was on the .com page. In order for me to get the STX package I have to upgrade to the Scab on the Canadian site.

If I wanted a Scab I wouldn't have even noticed this as I would only be getting and FX4.

On my dealer lots(two of them) close by me the only Reg cab trucks there are XL's and 95% of them have no options with 8' boxes and are pure work trucks.

Anyone know if that package is available through the dealership here in Canada anymore?

Only package difference I have heard of is the XTR. And pretty sure that is simply an XLT with chrome package.

Limited in my search capability at the moment.

I would also like to know if anyone has bought a truck in the U.S. and registered in Canada? What were the hoops to jump through?

If you google "Importing a US vehicle into Canada", you'll get step by step walk through. It's a somewhat lengthy process (requiring paperwork sent to the border 72 hrs before you show up), but other than that, it's a couple of inspections, installation of DRL's, etc. Depending on the vehicle, you can same a fair bit of money.

After stumbling across another thread lat last night/this morning I found a comment from about a year ago asking the same thing. So I guess I have my answer... to STX Reg Cabs sold new in Canada.

I used to do the RIV for US vehicles that people bought and brought back into Canada at the place I worked before moving back home after getting my Firefighting job. It is a fairly lengthy process but can be painless if you do your homework and submit all of the right paperwork on time. As stated above there is a minimal time the paperwork has to be at the border before you drive through. Each Canadian Province has their own provincial motor vehicle inspections so that will need to be done as well, along with having DRL(daytime running lights) working.

I think the hardest part will be finding a dealer that has the truck I want when I'm ready to buy. I have considered this but will have to look at the costs Vs the savings and if it will cost me about the same I would just as well be better off ordering in an Scab FX4 with the options I want.

The biggest difference between Canadian and American packages are the accents.

Sorry I had to.

Just on the side note. The resale and trade in value for a US model vehicle is generally lower than Canadian model within Canada from my experience.

Yes, if you plan on only driving it for a few years and want to trade it in, some dealers will not accept US-spec vehicles, or if they do, you'll be penalized on the value. A good deal if you plan on driving it to the point that it isn't worth much anyway.

This is true. Last year my girlfriend bought a 2009 escape hybrid fully loaded with Nav, leather, everything for only 28 grand including taxes. It was a US import with low mileage. She definitley got lucky with that one, an escape hybrid new is effing expensive.

Importing an F150 from the states is worth it. For the price I paid for my supercab XTR 3.7 4x4, I could have purchased a well equipped FX4 supercab ecoboost in the states.
