Default can you shut off tpms

Curious as to if you can bypass or shut off the tpms warning light on the dash. The ford tpms system is really kind of pointless to me since you have to get out and check all the tires anyhow. This would allow me to swap to different wheels and tires that i use on occasion without the irritating light on the dash.

you could do a TPMS "bomb" to trick the system to think that the tires are all inflated to the right PSI.

I have thought about that but I would like to just disable it. More pointless crap on these new trucks. Drove around for years without it and still kicking.

It's kind of a nice feature but i've had some trouble with mine. When I first got my truck back in my senior year of high school, literally the first or second week it had what looked like slashes in the back left tire. Replaced that tire and had the tpms go off like a day or so after the new tire was put on. Went to get it checked and it was reset by the dealership. Last year got my new tires and rims on and it went off again. I've had it go off 3 times now. I've just said the hell with it and not worried about it. As long as they aren't blinking i'm fine with it.

Can't turn them off. Some federal law that they need to be in any vehicle newer than 07. The TPMS bomb is the way to bypass it, or just deal with them.

  1. take-out the bulb.
    -OR-
  2. tape-over the icon.
BTW ... If you have annual vehicle inspections in your state, you will -fail- if the TPMS isn't functional and/or operational.

BTW(2) ... I have 3 sets of wheels that are routinely swapped in/out and haven't had any TPMS issues.

BTW(3) ... TPMS is not just a ford system, as noted it's federally mandated for all manufacturers.

BTW(4) ... As for pointless crap, blame the morons that drove their SUVs loaded and with uninflated tires. a.k.a. rollovers.

Feds say we have to have TPMS but at least us Ford guys don't have to drive around 24-7 with our headlights on :-) Try TPMS on a Chevy Tahoe talk about FRUSTRATION! Good thing it's a "company car", if it were mine I would have driven it through the dealership window by now!

Yeah, I agree the Ford TPMS is a joke of a system.. Doesn't tell you which tire is down, nor what the pressures are.. To top it off, mine has gone off before after I was 10 minutes out of town - apparently the cold set in and the tires were low. Kinda late going off, but glad to have the reminder.

Now, TPMS sensor fault light goes off after 15 minutes period so now I am going to have replace all the sensors. (I have 94K miles).

Wife's Suburban has a much better system.. Tell's you the pressures instantly (I use the dash reading when filling up the tires), and you can see which sensor is bad.

I too think this feature is horrible. It was better on my gmc telling me each tire pressure. Just traded my 09 sierra for 14 f150. Love the truck but some things were better on the gmc.

Tpms
Wheel well liners cover more
Tilt steering wheel had a better lever (u kidding with a pressure latch)
No pillar covers needed on the gmc fit and finish around the windows was done way better on the gmc ( flat black and nasty looking rubber on the ford)

Don't get me wrong I love my ford but some simple things need improvement.
