Issue: Cannot default the My Ford Sync system (without Navigation) to Bluetooth audio

Some users are having an issue with when they turn the ignition on their My Ford Sync system reverts to Line-In even though they were using Bluetooth audio when they turn their vehicle off. They would like to have the system revert back to Bluetooth audio instead of having to go through the menus to be able to get to Bluetooth audio or use the voice commands. A Ford customer service representative FordIVTteam actually joined in the conversation and gave the reason why Ford made this change (as it would previously revert to Bluetooth) and the best method to get back to the source they wanted.

Hi all,

First off, let me apologize for being MIA this past week. I had the pleasure of making acquaintances with this fun little bug that's been making the rounds on this side of the coast. A huge thanks goes out to my teammate Rebecca who was helping keep the workload manageable for when I got back. I'll be catching up for the rest of today and early next week, so if I haven't responded to anyone's PM's yet, FRET NOT.

Okay, now to business...

Hello despotic,

Not that I'm above handing in cop-outs ("Can't mow the lawn today honey, I tweaked my back playing tennis!"), I generally avoid giving them out as a rule of thumb. The reason being: I hate receiving half-hearted, empty customer service rhetoric myself. I would rather say "I don't know" than just make something up that doesn't help anyone out anyway. I certainly don't consider any design explanation as being enough on its own, but it does clear up a few points of contention for some. I would love nothing more than to announce if this change will be implemented and when, I just don't have access to that kind of insight. I can only encourage that those who wish to ensure their feedback is received to submit their suggestions via the proper channels that have been made available for that purpose.

On a side note: I'm glad your dealership was able to address your general concerns on the software level. Keep me in the loop if any of these connection issues return.

Crank Bait,

Given your experience, I can see how one might arrive at the same conclusion. Please give me the opportunity to demonstrate that this company still deserves your business. PM your VIN, contact info, mileage and servicing dealership, then I'll double check every avenue at my disposal to see what we can do to help you out.

Sync failed this morning. Bluetooth light on the display. Bluetooth light on my iPad Mini. Wouldn't connect. Ended up restarting the truck three times before it was able to finally pair with the truck.

You would have to pair phone and deny sync music permissions.
How do you deny Sync permissions?

How do you deny Sync permissions?
No idea on fruit stuff. Android you have to grant permissions for phone and media separately on first pairing and can change anytime under settings.
I use that to give stereo on my bike media access for Pandora and deny phone since that pointless in the wind.
That another annoyance I get track info and such over Bluetooth on that $99 radio but not on the SYNC...

I still say that if defaulting to bluetooth is available in MFT then Ford is failing miserably at consistent user experience across the board. There is absolutely no excuse for not allowing a user to at least have the option of enabling this functionality and I have to say that after 2 weeks of using bluetooth exclusively in my truck (I abandoned USB), I'm completely turned off by this conversation EVERY TIME I get in the truck.
*presses Voice button*
"Please say a command"
"Bluetooth Audio"
"There are no bluetooth devices connected, I will try to connect one"
"Thank you"
*music starts playing*

Since my tablet never leaves the truck, it's really quite disappointing that my device doesn't connect right away, let alone defaulting to that input.

LOL, same here. It's really sad to think Ford is leaving us in the cold on this. Maybe the Ford presence on the forum could get something going for us because this is just flat out wrong. My warranty isn't even up and I'm out of luck.

If the dumb *** little screen would say what I'm playing rather than "Bluetooth Media" or whatever I'd be content.

But nope.

I can live with having to say it, but damn... It can't display what's playing!?

That is very true too. My previous deck supported the bluetooth song metadata but my Android phones didn't for 4+ years and it drove me NUTS! I was so happy when Google got their act together and updated the bluetooth stack. If I wasn't using my tablet (soon to be mounted in the dash) this would really be bothering me.
I do believe this is another of the Ford failures at achieving/maintaining consistency across the Sync product line though.
This Ford social site that has been getting pushed is also a complete joke. The highest rated user recommendations on there have trivial numbers of up votes and many are completely ludicrous requests.

If my Microsoft phone and computer updates every few days why can't Microsoft update sync fairly regularly?

I received a call from Ford yesterday. During a lengthy call, this woman listened, offered me some free oil changes, promised nothing and asked me to reconsider my decision to NEVER BUY A FORD again.

Why would I reconsider? They have made no effort to this point to solve this issue except to 'handle' customers. "We're deeply sorry..." blah blah blah Fix the issue in the vehicle I've purchased!

I have news for you people reading this thread. It is clear to me now that Ford is not going to fix this. They already have our money. I can tell you that they will never get another penny of my money again.

After months of calling, emailing, engaging the dealer... ONLY NOW did this woman tell me she would escalate the issue to their Engineering Dept. At one point she (a bit snarkily) said, "The phone number to our Customer Relations line is in your owners manual." I told her I had called several times and gave her a CRM Incident from back in October. "Oh...", she said quietly when she found it buried in a database somewhere. I asked her why the issue wasn't escalated back then. She had no answers.

Sync is broken. Ford is broken. (...and Mike Rowe is a liar.)

Ford could take a lesson from this presentation at GEL 2006. (GEL = Good Experience Live) Watch it and laugh a little.

Ford is not inclined to fix this. Consequently, they have lost a customer who has driven Fords most of his life. It isn't only because of the Sync issue. It has more to do with how they have treated me. It is insulting...

In contrast to the crappy experiences I've had with Ford and my local Ford dealer, my experience with the local Toyota dealer and their products has been stellar (2007 Toyota Sienna). Buy a Toyota instead! I should have gotten a Tundra. My neighbor's new truck is a sweet ride and the Bluetooth in it works beautifully. (I tested it...)

Another neighbor traded his Ford F250 (snow plow truck) last month and purchased a new GMC. He had asked me how I liked my new truck and I told him EXACTLY what I thought. The Sync in his 2010 F250 worked the way we all want this to work in our new trucks. I showed him what a pain it had become. He didn't buy another Ford because he works in his truck and was concerned if he bought another Ford, he'd be fighting with his phone. His cell is the phone number for his trucking and snow-plowing business. Bluetooth works great in his 2014 GMC 2500 Sierra and his smartphone integrates perfectly. (I tested it...) I don't think he has Bluetooth in his dump trucks. He said he has Sirius radio in all of them.

I plan to make a YouTube video highlighting Sync's stupid design and show just exactly what a pain Ford customers are in for if they choose to believe the hype in Ford's advertising. I'll also see if I can do the same demo in the Toyota Tundra and the GMC Sierra.

Hey Ford!
