Default Transmission issue?

I have a 2010 XLT SCrew 5.4 6R80.

Due to having a vehicle issued to me for work, my truck sits for sometimes up to 3 or 4 days.

When I go to drive it after it has been sitting for a few days, it takes about three seconds for the transmission to go into reverse. If I give it some gas, it does it immediately. If I start it, put it in reverse immediately, and try to back out, it feels like its slipping. Once I give it gas, it engages and everything is perfect from then on out.

Is this normal due to the amount of time sitting? I figured all the ATF has drained out of all the components and settled to the pan, so the pump has to fill everything and bring everything back up to pressure. Its been doing this for years and it does not get any worse.

I have 52k mile and do no pulling.

Do you guys know if I'm still under the power-train warranty? Should I take it to Ford?

I just don't want to have to leave it there for 3 days, so they cab "feel the symptoms".

I am assuming your fluids are topped off and gtg?

You have a few more miles before your warranty is up. Id just take it in and have ford look at it.

Don't know what powertrain warranty is on that year model but if it's the same as my 13 it's 5yrs/60000 miles

I doubt it's anything to worry about but ya never know, the trucks we have in our fleet do the same thing and the trans guy told us it was the convertor draining down over night and it takes a few secs to get the system back up to pressure, we run the snot out of these trucks and they keep on ticking.

I suggest getting this in front of your dealer so they can inspect, PRNDL. Post your results once you get back; I'll keep an eye out for your updates.

Ok, I dropped it off to Ford today. They drove it and will keep it over the weekend so it can sit for a while. That way they can feel those cold start after sitting a few days symptoms.

I also mentioned to them that once the transmission is up to temp its shifts a bit rough. Up and down ****s. They feel like double shifts. Like clutches are not in synch.

They said there is a TSB and more than likely the pump is bad and will need replacing. They said they just had a truck like mine doing the same exact thing and the pump was bad.

I worry that if the pump was bad and pressures were low, the the clutches are burned too from the skipping. Also, i read way too many stories about bad metatronic valve bodies.

I worry there is more to it than the pump.

I've been down this road with my 2013 FX4. Had it in several times for the issue, but it only rears it's head after a minimum of 4-5 days sitting. I normally only use my truck on the weekends so this happens regularly for me. Every time I take it in they try to find the issue on the 2nd or 3rd day and never seem to wait long enough, so of course they see no problem. I finally gave up and live with it. One service manager finally told me the symptoms are normal and that I should let the truck warm up for a few minutes to get the fluids flowing in my trans (thread below). If you happen to get closure on your issue let me know.

I'll keep checking in to see when you have an update, PRNDL, but feel free to PM me directly if you'd like me to get your regional customer service manager involved. All I'll need to get started is your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership.

Hi Trek4Ward,

It's been a while since we've chatted; how many miles are on your truck these days?

Ford has been great, so far..

They called and advised that it had a
Bad metatronics unit and pump. All covered under warranty.
