Can I change the oil filter only?
I bought a new to me 2010 F-150 Platinum that came with a fresh oil change but the previous owner used a Fram filter. I bought a new Motorcraft FL820S oil filter that I would like to replace that pos with. Can I just unscrew out the old filter and put in the Motorcraft one? How much oil would I lose doing this? Do I need to re-add any?
Thanks in advance!

Agree with you on the Fram filter, but probably would have just left it on until the next oil change. Concerning yourself about the oil filter, are you concerned about the brand of oil that was used?

Agree, if they used a cheap oil filter, they probably also used cheap oil. Take it to a dealer for the works package, $39.95 for oil change (up to 5 quarts +$3 shop/disposal fee)) and tire rotation, includes a new Motorcraft filter and oil. Well worth the peace of mind if you ask me.

Yep. Cheap filter probably = cheap oil.

Pffft I have used Fram filters for 40 years and never had a filter or engine problem. I know I have read the reports but I've never had a problem. I would just leave it on.
I do not use cheap oil either.

Why take the chance when there is better filters out there? Not worth it in my opinion... Ignorance is bliss I guess...

Yeah better filters. I decided too use a bosch after I read the reports of how awful Fram was. It leaked from day one. I put nearly 200,000 miles on several engines with never an oiling problem. I don't know how much better it needs to be...
