The opening is for the intercooler that cools the intake air. It does not cool the turbo's.

I think they are these tires...

http://www.dickcepek.com/tires.php?item=MudCountry

There is another article on the site that offers a review of these tires and the picture in the article appears to be the same truck. The tread in both pictures matched the tire above.

Good job man you hit the nail on the head. One of the links had a pic of the exact truck that was in question.

This was the email reply from the editor when I asked him about that particular truck's set-up:

"That's Eric Kirkland's own pickup at Truck Supply & Outfitters. He says the outer lights are Warn 7" HID Driving Lights (#82405) and the inner are 4" HID (#82400) mounted on a Warn Brush Guard with Warn Powerplant 9.5K winch. The lift is nothing more than a READY LIFT 2-1/2" Leveling kit, which accommodates the BFG Mud-Terrain KMT LT305/55R20s mounted on factory Ford rims. They have all of those items in stock if you want to give 'em a call. www.Trucksupplyandoutfitters.com; 205-553-4203."
