Default camshaft position sensor fault

CEL came on the other day, I was a couple blocks from the dealership so I figured they'd be able to code it quick and book it in since sometimes these codes can be spooky.

What I suspected was a CAT issue or maybe an O2 sensor came back as a camshaft position sensor fault. Tech went into service for about 10 minutes, came back and nonchalantly said "good news is you're covered for a new engine."

DA FU**? That escalated quickly! CEL has since gone out.

Did some searching on it- apparently poor oil pressure is a common culprit. Anybody have any experience with this? Do I dare trust this thing if they plan on doing open heart surgery like this or do I unload the old girl? Man- what a **** way to hit the weekend.

That's what is so weird. It runs like a champ! No stumbling or weird behaviour. Is it possible that code could surface from a chain of little events and just be a one off?
My biggest concern- if I do need an engine swap- how able are they? Does the replacement come as a crate (block, rotating assembly and heads) pre assembled or do I have to be paranoid about some kid forgetting the difference between ft lbs and in lbs.

This seems weird cam position sensor fault and they are changing the engine.
Hopefully a new crate engine.

Hope so. Might as well do it right. They can't get it in until Nov 4th for further diagnostics and recommended I park it until then. Yeah, right. Park my work truck for 9 days. I guess if they are thinking it might need replacement- might as well make it DESERVE a replacement.

Don't run the heck out of it, they are changing your engine, but you will get back the same transmission, rear differential, etc.

Would let them do it. A brand new engine means your truck will last alot longer. Go for it!

No, no. I'm just going to keep running it normally. I just can't park it.
