From what all I know, all brands of gas (unlead/midgrade/premium) have the same additives -- it is just the octane that is different. If the octane is greater than what the manual recommends, shouldn't that be good enough? I don't know any factory ECUs that advance timing to take advantage of the higher octane, even with E85.

I've asked the dealer several times, but they just say that it's normal, or tell me to try different brands of gasoline, yadda, yadda.
I've tried very brand and octane rating I would find... still does it...

Yor truck would do fine with 87 octane. Using a higher octane does no help your truck- actually it hurts you fuel milage bacause the higher the octane the more resistant the fuel is to igniting. The higher octane fuels are mad for vehicles with high compression engines ie: Corvette. You are just wasting your money.

I'll see if I can't get a sound clip of this noise up. It does it at idle up to parking lot speeds.. Hell it might do it all the time and you just can't hear it over normal engine noise at some point. But it's loud enough in a parking lot with the windows up and radio off that you can hear it ticking away. Only when it has been at operating temp for a little bit though.

No ticking at all with my 4.6L 3V. 8,500 miles The engine is relatively quiet.

Suppose it could be my hearing tho..........

OK, got some sound files done.

First one is normal, you can hear some injector tick but nothing major.

Second one, aptly named, you can hear a much deeper tick/knock. It's most pronounced towards the end of the file.

engine cold no tick.mp3

engine warm deep tick.mp3

How about posting links to file we can all access without giving us a file denied access error??

as long as they don't get horribly worse, I'm going to deal with it. if they last until the warranty is up, then I plan on installing some FRPP Hot Rod Cams, and I'll be installing the cam phasor lock-outs at the same time
My 4.6L 3v acts similarly ... low RPM, high gear, under load and you get the noise. I would call it "lugging" the engine. Wind it out and the noise goes away. It's not really a tick though, I would call it a rattle. If I am towing or have weight in the bed its worse. Anyone have this, and had the dealer troubleshoot/fix it yet?
