Default Cab corner rust

My truck is pretty much rust free and very clean and I take good care of it but I noticed today that my passenger side rear lower cab corner is starting to bubble up and show signs of rust. Is there anything that I can spray in there to slow the process down? I really don't have the money to fix this right now.

Lots of posts on rust. You have to stop the rusting process with a chemical and then cover up the existing metal so it will not start up again.

It is very unfortunate, But I bet the rust is much worse than it looks from the outside. My 2010 is spotless everywhere else, but the Corners and Inner rockers are rotting from the inside out.


You could spray some fluid film inside there to slow the process. But unfortunately, its only going to get worse. And the only fix is to cut out the rust and replace it with new steel.

better check that third brake light seal. Often water will leak in and pool up in the corners, rotting them from the inside out. I was dealing with the same issues a few months ago and had both rockers replaced under fords paint and corrosion warranty (which covers the vehicles paint for up to five years from the put in service date). I would try and pop the bubble to see if water comes out, then you know what your dealing with. Seems like this is more of an issue with the supercrews.

It really is. Honestly, I just noticed mine a few weeks ago. I always meticulously cleaned my truck and it was rarely driven. I was sick when I noticed it. Now, coupled with my other issue, I am considering getting rid of it. But hard to justify when it only has 51k and its paid off.

I wish I would have noticed this sooner on mine so I could have tried for the warranty. Did you install a new seal for the 3rd brake light, or is there a new design....

climb under the truck and look at the back side of the rockers - there are huge holes that Ford covered with tape... The tape comes off and salt / road grime gets in there - in addition to whatever drain holes feed into them.

For what it's worth - I had a cab corner replaced on my 06 for $450. I imagine it would be around the same for this generation.

It first bubbled in 2012, broke through in 2014, and I got it replaced in 2016, and it hadn't spread much. So you might be okay to wait a bit if money is an issue.

Sorry to hear. My 2012 passenger cab corner on my Scab was rotting, too. Luckily for me, I was able to get it replaced 3 weeks before my corrosion warranty expired. I, like you, am meticulous about my truck so I was sick when I noticed it happening. Shame on Ford for the poor design that makes these expensive machines rot prematurely. At least the new gen is aluminum so this won't be an issue.

Edit: My truck only had 38k miles on it when I noticed the paint bubbling. To say I was livid would be an understatement. The truck had 50k on it when the rocker got replaced.

They make an updated seal that is wider, or you can use RTV. As for those pieces of tape on the inner rockers, I pulled all the tape off, sprayed the inside, then replaced with ZIP tape. Hopefully won't have anymore issues.
