Was wondering if anyone knows how the air conditioned seats work?

When I turn them on, I hear a fan type noise under the seat.

Does it redirect air from the trucks air conditioner or is it an individual unit under each seat?

Just curious.

BTW, LOVE this feature!

individual unit, the unit working with reverse polarity heats up, or cools. the fan is there to circulate the air

The seats are heated by electrical resistance similar to electric blankets, electric heating pads, etc. These elements to not "see" polarity, it doesn't matter which way the current flows, they will produce heat.

As per the owner's manual the seats are ventilated using a fan to circulate cabin air through channels in the seats. It's incorrect and a misstatement by Ford to call them air conditioned because AC has become synonymous with circulating a refrigerant to cool air even though the seats are conditioned by cabin air being moved through them which may or may not be cooled by the cabin air conditioning system.

So in this case A/C stands for "air circulated"? Not surprising coming from Ford as of late.....

This is correct. The heated/cooled seats use a TED, not a resistive heating element. See link for more info.

Maybe this is over my head but, how is the air cooled without refrigerant?
