Default A/C issue - what could this be

2011 Ecoboost Supercrew 4x4 Lariat

For the past few months, I've noticed that I sometimes can't take it off of max cool. Most of the time I can keep playing with it and lower the fan speed. Conversely, I sometimes couldn't turn up the fan speed.

Well, today I think she finally went out on me. No matter what buttons I pushed it wouldnt blow any air. I also tried defrost mode, but still no air. However, I found it odd that the seat cooler still worked.

Any recommendations on things I could try? Thanks!

Could be the blower speed control resistor assembly which is a cheap and easy fix. Do a search here and on YouTube. On my 2011 XLT I lost all but the hi blower positions and I bought the part on Amazon for less than 20 bucks. It's located behind the glove box. Took less than 20 minutes to swap out.

Not sure if this failure would be intermittent as it sounds like in your case, but it might be worth investigating.

Interesting. I did a little research on this. Sounds like it's worth a try given that it's so cheap.

I just tried the a/c again. Worked great first time. Tried again and only had a medium speed. Killed engine and tried a 3rd time and it wouldn't work at all.

Worked like a charm!!!

For anyone trying this replacement, make sure you purchase the correct resistor. I accidentally purchased the one for the manual controls for 20 bucks off amazon. However I actually needed the one for automatic button controls (60-80ish). Ended up buying it at a local ford dealer for $79 because I didn't want to wait a few days to save a couple bucks.

Thanks again for the tip! I'm sure the dealer would have charged me 250-350 to fix this issue.

Good catch.
I love it when the forum works as designed. Valuable, collective support for other owners.
Nice!
