Buying advice 2014 w EcoBoost?
First post: I am buying my first big truck sometime over the next few weeks. My trusty 2002 Ranger is just too small for the family to travel in, and it's getting pretty worn out. I have narrowed down my search to a ~2014 SuperCrew with the 3.5 EcoBoost and tow package. I need room for the fam and towing ability - and a backup camera since this will be so much bigger than previous vehicles. There seem to be many for sale nearby. Any special areas to look for/lookout for? (I have already researched this pretty well and have seen some frequently reported horror stories. I am looking hard at a Ford Certified Pre-Owned package but haven't made any firm decisions.) Thanks!

Well, I see the 2017's being reduced, but a new supercrew with the options I think I need (towing around 5K) still price out at around $10K more than the CPO ones. Too rich for my blood.

Buying advice?
Those are good trucks - but at only 3 years old they'll still probably want almost new price for it.
Back in 2011 when I bought my truck, I paid $30,100 for it, while they wanted $25k for a used 2008 with 40,000 miles on it, and the used one wasn't a good enough deal.

Do some homework on the ecoboost platform before you buy. They have been very problematic- just have to read the forums to get a feel. Gas mileage is NOT any better than the V8, and you can still tow very well with the V8.

Pretty much any of them, even the NA V6, should be able to tow 5k lbs.
You may want to look into an extended warranty, I don't know how much having a Ford CPO truck adds to the cost, but a warranty might not be much more.

I am surprised Bravo didn't say all of them have been very problematic. Maybe his bias is waning slightly.

Not when towing, but everyday driving it is
Not even close! The 5.0 is downright laughable compared to the ecoboost when towing. Unless you like driving in 4th or 5th gear on the expressway and downshifting to 2nd at 60mph when you encounter a hill.

3.5 Ecoboost is reliable
Great truck - I have a 2014 Super Crew Lariat - no issues so far. Great stereo, locking rear diff is a nice feature. Decent fuel mileage. Box is much deeper than chevy.
4wd Auto is slow to respond. I run mine in 4wd H in snow and ice.
